Rainbow 6 pays $89,000+, Harmonize takes season debut

A mandatory payout in Gulfstream Park's Rainbow 6 jackpot wager generated an additional $10.78 million in wagers on Saturday, which was added to carryover that exceeded $4.5 million.

The payoff at the end of the six-race sequence was $89,456.54 for 147 winning tickets. The winners were Mighty Mo ($8.60), Deer Dog ($15.80), Rose's Dancer ($31.80), Bibbo ($18.80), Harmonize ($6), and Appa ($14.20).

Total handle on Gulfstream's Saturday card was more than $25.9 million, a record for a non-Florida Derby Day.

On the track, Bill Mott capped an impressive day coast to coast when his nice three-year-old grass filly Harmonize won her season debut, the $75,000 Sanibel Island H., under Junior Alvarado.

Owned by Larkin Armstrong, the daughter of Scat Daddy overcame some early trouble to score by three parts of a length in a time of 1:34.68 for one mile on firm turf. The 2-1 second choice in the field, she paid $6.

Harmonize was the third winner trained by Mott in Saturday's Rainbow 6 sequence. The stable, which was silent for much of the month after a quarantine was placed at its Payson Park headquarters, also celebrated wins Saturday in the Muniz Memorial (G2) at Fair Grounds and the Santa Ana (G2) at Santa Anita.

Second by a nose in her debut last August, Harmonize next captured the $100,000 P.G. Johnson at Saratoga by four lengths and followed up with a neck score in the Jessamine (G3) at Keeneland. In her last start at two, she finished seventh in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1).

The first stakes of the day, the $75,000 Cutler Bay H. for three-year-olds, fell to Giant Run in wire-to-wire fashion.

Runner-up by less than a length in his stakes debut, the February 27 Palm Beach (G3), the Giant's Causeway chestnut settled comfortably for Joe Bravo through fractions of :24.26, :48.10, and 1:11.25. Shaking off a bid from Abbot around the far turn, Giant Run opened back up in the stretch and won by 1 1/4 lengths over the rallying Highland Sky.

Owned by Robert Baker and Bill Mack, Giant Run paid $6.40 as the 2-1 favorite. The Tom Albertrani charge completed one mile on the turf in 1:34.74.
