Remington Park 2016 Quarter Horse Meet
Some of the best Quarter Horses in the country will compete at Remington Park when the Oklahoma City racetrack kicks off its American Quarter Horse meet on Friday, March 11. Post time for the first race is set for 6 p.m. (Central).
On March 12, the first Saturday of the meet, Remington has carded 15 Oklahoma Futurity (G3) trials. An early post time for the first race on March 12 is set for 5 p.m. The 10 fastest qualifiers from the Oklahoma Futurity trials will meet in the 75th running of the stakes on March 26, worth $420,000.
Remington Park's rich stakes schedule is topped by the 350-yard, $1-million Heritage Place Futurity (G1), which will be run on closing night, June 4. Six other major Quarter Horse stakes will be contested on closing night, including the 440-yard, $250,000 Remington Park Invitational Championship (G1), and the 400-yard, $100,000-added Heritage Place Derby (G2).
The AQHA Bank of America Racing Challenge is set for May 22, topped by the 440-yard, $100,000-added Bank of America Oklahoma Challenge (G2).
Fans will miss Quarter Horse jockey G. R. Carter, Jr., who retired at the end of 2015 as the sport's all-time rider by wins. But the very strong rider colony will include AQHA Champion jockey, Ricky Ramirez, veterans Larry Payne, Russel Hadley, Cody Smith, Berkley Packer and young talents, Omar Reyes and Agustin Silva.
Top trainers in the 50-day race meet include Eddie Willis, Trey Wood, Clinton Crawford, Kasey Willis, Luis Villafranco and Rick Robinson.
