Rosecroft offers solid Tuesday card
While many harness racing fans are already looking forward to Saturday's lucrative finals of the George Morton Levy Memorial and Bluechip Matchmaker series finals, other hardcore fans will be focused on Tuesdays card at Rosecroft Raceway.
When the Dover Downs fall-spring meet ended last Thursday, many Delaware horsemen gave their trotters and pacers the week off since Harrington's spring meet does not commence until April 25. But others dropped horses into race at Rosecroft on Tuesday, resulting in a very good program.
Midway through the card a full field of nine older pacers are slated to go postward in a non-winners of $4000 last five starts class. Both Dalhousie Dave and Real Impulsive step up in class slightly following good performances in a non-winners of $2500 last five condition. Redneck Fortune was the beaten favorite at this level last start after winning against similar two starts back, so all three loom logical contenders.
Then two races later in the $12,000 Open 2 Handicap for older pacers, Dover Downs invaders Fancy Colt (Tony Morgan) and Sparky Mark (Jonathan Roberts) got basically assigned the two outside slots after both won a split, non-winners of $12,001 last six starts class at Dover on April 11.
Jet Blue Miracle, who won this event two starts back after finishing fourth in a non-winners of $9001 last six starts class at Dover won by Fancy Colt, is joined by Concert Artist and Diamondkeeper, who finished one-two in this event last week and the speedy Hot Art, who won the inaugural Open this spring but has not displayed his usual good performances since then. Either way, this Open 2 is shaping up as the best race of the meet to date.
Three races later in another non-winners of $4000 last five starts class, look for Upbyfive to finally garner his first win of the season. But give Missed Opportunity a chance to upset following a win against non-winners of $2500 last five company last week in his first start on Lasix.
Then one race later in the 12th, look for Hi Sir (Russell Foster) to finally notch his first win of the campaign in this non-winners of $6000 last five class. He finished second last week while displaying the solid late kick local racegoers have grown accustomed to seeing. Then in the finale, look for Rebel Soldier to prevail in this conditioned affair for owner-trainer-breeder Steve Warrington of Sanabelle Island fame.
