Santa Anita - $419,541 Pick 6 Carryover Race 1 Post Time 4:00 pm ET Race 3 Post Time 5:01 pm ET

Race 3: A TOAST TO YOU won the California Flag over the downhill course in October, but is not likely to get the same pace set up as he did that day. Instead, HES A DANCE STAR is the most likely bet-able winner as he should get an uncontested lead and roll gate to wire.

Race 4: This is a grab bag maiden claiming race and the horses with experience don't give a lot of confidence. So I'd wager on GUTSY RULER, a first-time starter from the Mike Puype barn. Puype doesn't win first out often, but he may have found an easy spot for his gelding. W. GILES is another debut runner and may be worth including. Bigger tickets may just hit the "all" button.

Race 5: THROUGH MY EYES looks like a good gamble for his two-turn and turf debut in this one-mile maiden special weight race for California-breds. PUBLIC INTEREST is the 7-2 morning line favorite, but has not been out since early November and is a closer in a race that could unfold at a slow pace. ROMAN TIZZY would fit if not for drawing post 10. THROUGH MY EYES is trained by Jeff Mullins, who also has the second-time starter STAKE HUNTER. STAKE HUNTER is bred up and down to love the mile run on the Santa Anita turf and may be overlooked in the wagering.

Race 6: BROWN BOSS has only started on conventional dirt once in his 10 race career, but he is taking a massive drop in class and if his last can be excused, he is a standout. WARREN'S JOE T. also drops in class while RED SHARP HUMOR and YOUONLY LIVEONCE will be battling it out on the front end.

Race 7: This one mile turf race should unfold at a good pace with MISS WELL MOLDED and MANGITA so going to settle on BLAZEN ALL STAR and TANQUERRAY, both of which are stepping up in class. Bigger tickets should use all four or use two and then back it up with the others in the pick-4, which starts in race five.

Race 8: RUNAWAY QUE and BLUEGRASS FOX TROT just finished two-three in a similar race behind a horse that won his next start and are the principles in the finale. KEENELAND KITTEN had to need his first local start and gets back to his preferred distance. SAMURAI ASSAULT also exits the same race the top two do and has a long shot look if you want to spread. SIR MACHO just finished second at Hollywood Park and was three lengths clear of the third place finisher. In his debut he finished behind the talented Kristo.
