Santa Anita - Desert Code Stakes, May 3, 2014
Santa Anita 4 | 4:03 pm ET
Desert Code for 3yo going about 6.5f (T)
About three and one-half hours before California Chrome starts as the favorite in the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby, a horse that has finished behind him in a pair of starts, SCHOOLOFHARDROCKS, will try to get back on the winning track. The Rock Hard Ten colt has trained like a monster throughout his career and was so impressive in his debut that many people put money on him in the Derby future pool. It's back to the drawing board down the hill, but he won his debut on the polytrack and he is bred to handle the surface switch. Of course placing a bet on a horse doing something for the first time is not ideal so going to side with FOREVER JUANITO for the upset. FOREVER JUANITO is likely to be pressing the pace with NOBLE METAL and can get first run on the closers, ROYAL BANKER and KARMA KING. KARMA KING finished behind FOREVER JUANITO in their last while ROYAL BANKER is cutting back in distance after a sixth place finish in the one-mile Pasadena Stakes. Two starts back he finished fourth in the Baffle Stakes down the hill. HOME SCHOOL makes his first start since November and is another that will be doing their best running late.
