Race 3: DO SOME MAGIC just finished second by a head at this level and is the horse to beat as we kick off another carryover in the pick-6 at Santa Anita. UNUSUALLY GREEN also is coming off a second place finish at the level while TRICKY JOURNEY deserves a long shot look as the pace of the race.
Race 4: No real confidence on any of the eight entered for this maiden claimer so going to settle on DEHERE IS GONE for trainer Bill Spawr. He should improve off his last effort as evident by the strong works and the second place horse in that race came back to win at this level last week. NO EZ MONEY will improve second out; TASHA'S COURAGE will find a field she can beat eventually.
Race 5: LORD KITRA is the day's best and should be able to roll wire-to-wire in this one-mile turf race for $25,000 claiming fillies and mares. She drops out of a straight allowance race and reunites with the jockey who was aboard her maiden breaker. PUTAHEXONHER will keep the top choice company and the pair can make it one-two around the track.
Race 6: All reports in the morning have VALDIRONE a slam dunk in race six, but this will be his first start since February 2013 and had to navigate the rail draw. BOBO is going to be there from the start and will get first run if VALDIRONE is a bit short off the layoff. MASTER CHEF and JUDGE CARR are the threats from off the pace.
Race 7: LUCKY VIEWS has run his two best races on the turf, a second by a nose in an allowance race and a third in an overnight stakes. He can either set or press the pace and with the blinkers going on, will be tough to run down. AWESOME PROSPECT, winner of two straight, and AWESOME RETURN, third behind LUCKY VIEWS, are two for deeper plays and should be on any late pick-3 or pick-4 wager.
Race 8: The theme of the day seems to be betting horses that finished well at the same level in their last start and the Thursday finale is no different MOSCATO GIRL finished second, beat a nose, in her last start and was over six lengths clear of third. This is her eighth career start and has three seconds and three thirds. WILD OPTIMISM makes her first start in So Cal and may be the better bet. Her speed figures from New Mexico are light, but trainer Peter Miller wins with more than his fair share of shippers from the land of enchantment.
