Race 1: OBSESS has not won in his last seven starts, dating back to September 2012, but this may be the spot to right the ship. Not to mention he is 8-1 on the morning line and he is worth a bet. COURTSIDE and PEACENIK will be setting the early pace with GAL HAS TO LIKE IT and SENATOR BOB not far behind. MUCHOS BESOS gets a good set up dropping back in distance first off-the-claim for trainer Craig Lewis.
Race 2: LA SORELLA ran too good to lose last time, but could not hold off the late closing winner. She comes back at the same maiden special weight class and is the filly to beat. NAZARETH gets back to sprinting after an even effort around two turns. She will be running late. LA PEQUENA GIGI finished three quarters of a length behind the favorite last out and is another to consider for the pick-5 wager. MISS SUPER QUICK has not run since September and has slow numbers, but she may be the only filly to pressure LA SORELLA early.
Race 3: STREET MAVEN made his first start in nearly a year last month and ran well, finishing second, beat just a half length. If the gelding can improve off of that, he will win this maiden claimer. ROMAN TIZZY looks second best while WE HAVE LIFT OFF projects to be right there at the end. FEARSOME CHARISMA rates a long shot look and will be picking up the pieces late.
Race 4: The Saturday feature looks to have a standout. VAGABOND SHOES won the Grade 2 San Marcos in early February and may not have been fully cranked. He is the class of this Grade 2 and will win with a repeat of his last. TEMERAINE will try to steal it up front. In December he was second behind LUCAYAN in the Grade 2 Turf Cup at Hollywood Park.
Race 5: This maiden special weight race is loaded top to bottom and those playing the pick-5 may want to consider using all. TWENTY PERCENT is the morning line favorite off of his fast morning works; however, trainer Doug O'Neill hits with only 8% of his debut runners. GAMEBOY LUKE is the horse with experience to fear and the cut back in distance will help. JUSTA SPLASH, sold for $410,000 as a two-year-old in training last year, makes his debut for Bob Baffert. MIDNIGHT STORM is another first-time-starter that has some good works on paper.
