Santa Anita - Starter Allowance, May 9, 2014
Santa Anita 7 | 9:07 pm ET
Starter Allowance for 3&Up F&M going about 1 mi (T)
Twilight racing on Friday at Santa Anita with first post at 6:00 pm ET. Race seven is a starter allowance going one mile on the turf and going to take a shot with a wager on WARRENS LIL MARGIE on the surface switch, first off the claim for trainer Jeff Mullins. Mullins is 21% with first-time-turfers and if WARRENS LIL MARGIE can run to her race in December, you can bet she will be right there at the end. BLAKE'S MAGIC is the 5-2 morning line favorite, making her first start at a route of ground after seven straight turf sprints. The daughter of Bernstein was second in her last race down the hill and may appreciate the added distance. While there are several stretch-out runners, WRITER FEVER may be the one to take them to the wire the first time. WRITER FEVER was head and head for the lead against BLAKE'S MAGIC in their last, but had nothing late and faded to be sixth. Third off the layoff with an easier time up front may just be what the doctor ordered. BACKINTHEACADEMY and LAKOTA ROAD just finished two-three at this level a month ago going nine furlongs on the turf; both are capable of winning on their best day.
