Santa Anita Sunday Pick 5 - Palos Verdes Stakes, February 2, 2014

February 2nd, 2014

Santa Anita Race 1, Post Time 2:00 pm ET

Race 1: Early post on Sunday with the Super Bowl and MAHOGANY RUN will be looking to make her debut a winning one. If TAKE A RISK is going to show anything, it's here making his first start since March 2013 moving from a state-bred maiden special weight to this open maiden claimer.

Race 2: It took nine starts to break her maiden, but LAKE MARACAIBO did so in style, absolutely demolishing an over-matched field. She returns to a surface she has run well over and can make it two straight for her new connections. AMANDA and REAL BRIGHT BOOTS look like the biggest danger while INTOXICATING MOVE is the threat from the back of the pack.

Race 3: Only seven in this one-mile maiden claiming race and this looks like an "ALL" type of race. None of the fillies and mares install any type of confidence.

Race 4: SECRET CIRCLE makes his first start since winning the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Sprint over the Santa Anita track back in November and the seven-time winner looks like a standout, even with the layoff. WILD DUDE, SAHARA SKY and MOONSHINE BAY are all trained by Jerry Hollendorfer and will try to upset the favorite. Look for MOONSHINE BAY to run with the favorite early with WILD DUDE stalking the pace and SAHARA SKY coming from the clouds late.

Race 5: MOSCATO GIRL just finished second at this level and was claimed by John Sadler, but if she wins, the pick-5 will not pay very well so going to side with 4-1 STROLLIN HOME. The apprentice jockey hasn't exactly wowed people with some of his rides, but the stretch out in distance suits the filly very well. MAJESTIC GEM is a debutante with some nice works with NEW NATURE putting the blinkers on for a trainer/jockey combination that loves to upset the apple cart.

Super Bowl: This has been the matchup everyone has wanted to see all year. The high powered offense of the Broncos against the Legion of Boom defense of the Seahawks. Defense wins championships and that should once again be the case on Sunday. The Broncos will have no way to stop Beast mode and the Hawks can control the clock from start to finish. Seahawks 27 Broncos 21
