Semi-Finals of Orange Park Derby
Only three races remain until we find out just who is going to be in the finals of the 2016 $50,000 Orange Park Derby, but those three races will be no cakewalk for anyone of our competitors. The 7th, 9th, and 11th races for Saturday evening at bestbet Jacksonville at packed full of talent. Some can just cruise through the rounds and others will need to show up big time to have a chance to move on. On tap we have stakes round winners, track record holders, stakes finalists, and even an All-American, so grab your bucks and head to the track and see if you can cash in on some of the best routers in the country this weekend.
Let’s take a closer look at the remaining races and see if I can pick you some winners.
Race 9 – Another tough race as the fields tighten up as we head further and further into the rounds. The 770 Track Record Holder, Herstal, gets my nod in this race one. Riding high on back to back wins, after a 6th place finish by just 2 lengths in round 1, she is ready to go against from another great inside post position. This pup can flat out fly when she gets the clear air open ahead of her and no one in this field can run with her in the deep stretch. Sure, she might not be in the lead early on, but that is not her game anyways, but everyone will need to watch out for her late. Tonight, no lead is safe as she continues her red hot running with another strong victory. Finding their break again, Kiss This and Skiddy Flicker should come out running at the start of this event. Either of these two greyhounds could wire the field on the lead if they get loose early on as they have both won several top-grade events in box to wire fashion. Kiss This just won the first two rounds of the stakes on the early lead, and Skiddy Flicker had won 4 straight in near box to wire fashion just before the rounds started. Post could play a role for both, there are not where they want to be on the racetrack, but if they hit the lid, it doesn’t matter that much. Both can be caught from behind and if they don’t get a large enough lead on Herstal early, both could surrender to the 770 monster in the stretch. Don’t sleep on Pat C Fracking either. Another greyhound that has run well in the rounds, but lacks that win to push him over the top into the finals. Tonight, is a golden opportunity to do just that. Sure, he might not be the favorite, but needs to step up in this race if he wants a chance to see the big race next Saturday evening. (3-4-1-8)
Race 11 – Rebound time for the All-American here at bestbet Jacksonville. Seldom Told looked untouchable since moving to 660, but in his last effort he can back to earth just a bit. Told didn’t reach the early lead, dove inside and collided with his rivals, and that cost him late in the race. There he didn’t have that big-time kick and couldn’t gain on the leader late. He was outphotoed for place and finished 4th at the wire. Still he has only missed the money once in 32 starts at bestbet Jacksonville and is perfect in the money over 660 yards. Tonight, he has no early speed around him to the inside and I expect for him to break better, clear easily, and lay waste to this field just like he did the 5 previous times. Next best is the only other early speed greyhound, Lk’s Centuria. Like several others, she has not missed the money, but lacks a win to move on to the finals. Loads of talent here as we have seen her in the past win race after race over 660 yards. She can get it done from the lead and can even come from just off the pace to steal away a win in the final few steps. Don’t hold getting caught last time out against her, she was run down by the 770-track record holder. No shame there. Posted well outside, she might be able to steal away the lead once again in this effort, but even if she does, the outcome will probably be the same at the wire. Trying to play catch-up will be the rest of the outside part of the racetrack. Lee Sally and Easi Turner have both been successful in the rounds and each still has a chance to see the finals if they can get home with some big-time points in this effort. Sally has not run worse than 3rd, and even though Turner won in round 2, his 8th place finish in round 3, leaves him in the same boat as Sally if they want to compete in the finals. Both greyhounds need the upset and the outside part of the racetrack should do them well in this effort. Both greyhound can close some, but against the big dog, they will need to break on top and run the race of their careers if they want to upset and find that final round field. (4-7-6-8)

Round 4 of $50,000 Orange Park Derby Saturday evening November 5th, 2016
Race 7 – Tough race here tonight and it will come down to who wants it more. Ultra-fast Barts Rising Star needs a big-time W to secure himself a spot into the finals and from a good inside post, I expect for him to show up big once again. There is a ton, and I mean a ton, of early speed in this effort, but he has too much late for any of them. Don’t look for him early on, but late, he outcloses the rest and scores. Speaking of early speed, Gs Hal gets the nod as the front runner in this effort. Loving the added distance, Hal hasn’t missed the money in 5 starts, this post gets him a clean lane to rush and run from as he looks for back to back wins. He can be short late, especially with who will be chasing him down in the stretch, so look for a game effort throughout and another strong in the money effort. Last year’s finalist Kk Whitezin will be considered a threat to win this race as well. This girl won the first two rounds of the stakes and was just off in third last time out. The post and all the early speed might hamper her early, but that dominating late kick might let he steal away the show at the wire. If she can clear close, she could prove unstoppable again tonight. Pat C Dashboard also gets some love in this race. With 5 efforts in a row in the money over 660, including a trio in the stakes, Dashboard could be upset minded tonight from the farest of far post positions. A big-time break will be needed if he wants to surprise this field in this effort. (3-1-7-8)Race 9 – Another tough race as the fields tighten up as we head further and further into the rounds.
