Showdown update: Can one of 1,176 go 17/17?

With 17 races to go, 1,176 TwinSpires.com players remain alive for the $1-million top prize on the Road to the Kentucky Derby SHOWdown.

The number represents 50.9% of the original 2,308 players and 72.3% of the 1,627 who had advanced out of the El Camino Real Derby. No favorite has won any of the three races so far, but no favorite has finished off the board, either.

An average of 79.5% of players have advanced each round, and if that continues then there would be 29 players going into the Kentucky Derby alive for the $1-million prize. If 65% of players advance each race then that would leave one person alive for the $1-million going into the Derby. If each individual player left can pick a horse to show 65% of the time, then there is a 79.8% chance that at least 1 player will be alive for the Million come Derby.
