Singling speed in Early & Late Pick 4 at Kentucky Downs

Another contentious card awaits horseplayers today as Kentucky Downs offers the fourth of five racing programs this month.

I’ll be playing both the early and late Pick 4, focusing upon a couple of singles in each sequence.

Race 3: #4 Chiltern Street (4-1) was bet in his debut at Saratoga but acted badly at the gate, and a slow start from the rail post doomed the fate of the well-meant 3yo as he was forced to steady while full of run on the far turn and wound up a close fourth. The Giant’s Causeway colt should appreciate the added ground and shows a bullet half-mile work (:46 4/5) from the gate for Wesley Ward. Chiltern Street will show speed from the start and can lead all the way over a non-descript cast of challengers.

Race 12: Race lacks pace and #10 Perfect Flute (6-1) should be controlling the action. She broke her maiden with a forwardly-placed trip earlier this year and displayed improved speed following a freshening last time. The well-bred 3yo filly is eligible to move forward for Bill Mott (21% second off layoff) and Perfect Flute can prove best up front.

Early .50 Pick 4 (race 2-5) – $60

3,4,5,8 with 4 with 2,4,5,6,13 with 1,3,5,8,9,10

Late .50 Pick 4 (races 10-13) -- $48

3,4,5,7,10,11 with 1,5,8,12 with 10 with 3,6,7,11
