Flying Fired Up Soars to Victory!

The winner of the 2015 SOUTHLAND DERBY is FLYING FIRED UP after his impressive performance Friday evening in the very exciting Race 11 finals of the stakes contest. FLYING FIRED UP had the 5 box and broke 5th but was 3rd at the turn, 2nd down the backstretch and gave it all he had down the stretch to win by a nose. He went off as the second longest shot on the board but ran like a champion. Running second was Cbj Butterfinger who had the 2 box, broke 4th but had the lead at the turn and held it until caught at the wire. Chasmo's Octane had a tough trip early but came on strong at the end to get 3rd place and Mega Umberto finished 4th. Rounding out the field was Mega Madrid, Counselor, Dark N Demure and Cbj Irish Cream who went off as the favorite but could never mount a threat. Congratulations to FLYING FIRED UP and all his connections  as well as all the other entries in the finals and congratulations also to Dawmuhknows who went box to wire in winning the Consolation title in Race 9.

I am happy to say that I had 4 of my original 8 picks make the finals along with 1 pick that made the consolation race and while my pick to it all, Counselor, finished 6th in the championship race I did have FLYING FIRED UP as one of the original 8 selections. Stakes racing is exciting and very competitive at all tracks and it's well worth a trip to SOUTHLAND to watch these tremendously talented greyhounds compete.
