SOUTHLAND Preview - Monday, August 24
Welcome to another Monday twilight card of exciting greyhound racing at Southland as there are 18 entertaining races on tap for our viewing and wagering pleasure. MoneyMaker Mike's picks for this card will be greyhounds that finished in last place last time out but have a decent chance of coming right back with a really big effort while returning a nice profit to you. Greyhounds that are coming off last place finishes are often overlooked when handicapping a race so there will be times when you can really get nice odds on some of them. Race 3 - 583 yards - Grade M - FELICITY SMOAK - 5 box - She's coming off an 8th place finish in a 660 yard race but in her schooling effort the time before that, she had a 4 length win. I am hoping she breaks good here because she's positioned well for her mid to wide running style to have a good race. Let's give her a shot here to rebound from a poor showing with a big effort in this outing.
Race 5 - 583 yards - Grade B - GALLANT BAND - 2 box - He encountered trouble early last time out on his way to finishing 8th but I wouldn't let that discourage me from giving him a decent chance to redeem himself in this race. He's shown to be capable of hitting the lid and going box to wire just like he did two races ago from the one box. His inside running style will hopefully help him find running room early while avoiding any trouble and putting him in position to challenge for the win.
Race 17 - 660 yards - Grade A - WW'S SOONERSCOOP - 2 box - Here is a solid top grade runner who's coming off an 8th place finish in his last race but he is deserving of keeping an eye on in this one. He is a rail runner who has a very strong closing run and it should come in handy here. Look for him to start making his late move when he gets to the first turn and turns on the closing speed, a definite threat for tri and superfecta plays.
