Southland Preview - Recap of week long top 3 study
Welcome everyone to another Monday of greyhound racing at Southland as there are 18 entertaining and exciting races on tap for July 13 and I wish all of you the best of luck with your wagering opportunities. As some of you know, most of this past week I have been selecting one greyhound from each grade that I felt had a shot at running 1st, 2nd or 3rd and Sunday's selection results are listed below as the study has ended. I also have listed some statistics from all 5 twilight and evening performances (Wednesday thru Sunday) that I used in this study as well as some thoughts about how it turned out.
These are the results from Sunday's picks.
Race 1 - Grade D - 583 yards - Kiowa Lenovo - ran 2nd
Race 2 - Grade M - 583 yards - Djays Macho Man - ran 8th
Race 8 - Grade A - 583 yards - Ellie - ran 3rd
Race10- Grade AA - 583 yards - Chasmo's Diesel - ran 2nd
Race13- Grade B - 660 yards - Gigawatt - ran 3rd
Race14- Grade C - 583 yards - Steve Gostkowski - ran 8th
These were the 5 performances used during the week - 7/8 twilight, 7/9 twilight, 7/10 evening, 7/11 evening & 7/12 matinee. There were 6 greyhounds selected to finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd, one in each grade (AA, A, B, C, D & M) for each performance which made a total of 30 greyhounds picked overall. Listed below are the statistics from those 30 races.
Total greyhounds (30) - total greyhounds that finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd - (18) - total greyhounds that didn't finish in the top three - (12). Overall and on the plus side, that does equal out to a 60% success rate.

703 yards - 6th place - 1 time
820 yards - 2nd place - 1 time
Several noteworthy observations that stand out include the fact that in Grade B all 5 of the picks finished in the money. Grade C had two picks that won but the other three picks finished 8th and 9th, it was either feast or famine in this class. As might have been expected, the 583 yard course had the majority of the picks with 21 of the 30 races over the 5 day trial and it was almost even with 11 picks finishing in the top 3 and 10 picks finishing 4th or worse. Of the 8 distance course races (660, 703 and 820 yards) the results were very good with 6 of the 8 picks finishing in the top three. The only 334 yard distance race pick finished in 2nd place.
Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
