SOUTHLAND Preview - Thursday twilight, August 13
Welcome to another Thursday twilight race card of exciting greyhound racing at Southland as there are 18 entertaining races on tap for your viewing and wagering pleasure. For the next few days MoneyMaker Mike will give four longshot selections for those of you who have requested that I give out some picks that could bring a nice return on your investment. The only requirement for a longshot pick is that the greyhounds selected not be one of the four favorites at the bottom of the program. These are picks that I think stand a decent chance of finishing in the top three and helping make the ticket a nice paying one. Two of my selections this evening are solid top grade runners not on the morning line but very capable of big runs. Race 2 - 583 yard course - Grade M - PJ IJUSWANAPARTY - 6 box - Showing 7-1 on the program but he's coming off his best finish in his very young career, beaten only by a head last time out for a 2nd place effort. He is 3 out of 6 in top four finishes and I'm hoping he comes away with a good break, avoids any early trouble and can get a decent rail position around the turn in which to make his inside running move.
Race 9 - 583 yard course - Grade A - GET OUT WAY - 6 box - He hasn't shown much in 3 of his last 4 starts but did go box wire to wire in a schooling race win a couple of weeks ago. He was off for 4 months before getting back on the track for his last two official starts and while I am a little hesitant to make a big wager on him here, he's worth a small play at least for me as he's dropping in class.
Race10 - 583 yard course - Grade AA - COUNSELOR - 1 box - I can't past this one up even though this very talented greyhound is extremely unlikely to go off at anywhere close to the big odds listed on the program. He has encountered his share of trouble lately but is still very capable of getting a win anytime he steps on the track and this race is no exception so look for him to give a big effort here.
Race15- 660 yard course - Grade AA - PJ REFINED - 2 box - Here is another talented greyhound who has had some trouble lately but who is always a threat to win. She can run from anywhere on the track and should be out fast and in contention for the win in this one. She's got tons of ability and has shown to be very track savvy, hopefully the odds stay somewhat high on her so you can get a good return with a solid finish.
