SOUTHLAND - Thursday, April 14

April 14th, 2016

The first results are in on this week's study of the morning line picks at Southland and I have recapped them below. As previously stated, this week MoneyMaker Mike is taking a look at different handicapping styles and I figured we would start with the morning line picks found at the bottom of each of the daily Southland programs. There will be 7 performances thru Sunday and I will update the results daily and then have an overall recap on Monday on our study. I had been discussing the different handicapping methods with some long time greyhound fans recently and several of them brought up the morning line picks put out by each track. Since I do the Southland blog I figured it would be interesting to see how the West Memphis track would do if using the program's picks. This is an unscientific study for sure but it should be entertaining to do and may give the greyhound fan, whether a novice or long time gambler or somewhere in between, a different perspective on picking the  dogs.

There were 18 races on the program for the Wednesday greyhound card and of those races, the results show the morning line selections had 3 winners outright and included 5 quinielas, 4 exactas, 2 trifectas and 1 superfecta. The key dog on the morning line in each race finished in the top 3 with 3 winners, 6 place finishes and 3 show finishes so the key dog was in the money in 12 of 18 races on Wednesday. The 3 winners came in the 3rd, 7th and 8th races. Of the 5 quinielas hit, 4 of them were the morning line top two dogs for those races which were the 7th, 8th, 13th and 14 races. The other quiniela that was hit came in the 18th race and was a four dog box. Exactas hit in the 7th, 8th, 13th and 14th races with the right order in both the 7th and 8th. Both trifectas hit were the top 3 greyhounds in the 13th and 14th races. There was one superfecta hit and that was in the 13th race as all 4 of the morning line picks for that race came in.  While it would have nice to see a few more winners I still think it was overall a decent showing for those playing the key dogs in each race or top two or top three in quinielas, exactas and trifectas.

Stay tuned over the next few days for the results of our study and good luck with your handicapping and wagering opportunities. Thanks for reading.
