Spot Plays for Colonial Downs, Oaklawn, March 14, 2026

Although it's a relatively quiet Saturday in terms of stakes, graded and otherwise, there are still plenty of opportunities to cash around the country. Here are some horses of interest on the big cards at Colonial Downs and Oaklawn Park.

Colonial Downs Race 4: Maiden, 1:45 p.m. ET

#8 Sir George (9-2), the only Triple Crown nominee among the eight entries, has finished second in two prior attempts. The horses that beat him subsequently won stakes in their respective next starts, so this colt has been in pretty deep waters so far.

Exiting a key race, one he might have needed after five months on the bench, Sir George looks primed for another good showing with an extra quarter-mile to work with this time.

Colonial Downs Race 9: Virginia Derby, 5:10 p.m. ET

Willing to draw a line through the Holy Bull (G3) on the past performances of #7 Incredibolt (10-1). A number of horsemen have been vocal about how deep the inside paths on Gulfstream's main track have been throughout the winter; the inside draw and staying there did this colt no favors.

Incredibolt's two wins at Churchill Downs last fall were fairly strong, one over a one-turn mile and the other a 1 3/4-length triumph in the Street Sense (G3) after rallying from behind a modest pace. At any rate, he's capable of producing a much more appealing effort than the Holy Bull.

Oaklawn Park Race 11: Maiden, 6:55 p.m. ET

The nightcap is a six-furlong dash for three-year-old fillies, and I suspect #2 Fraud Alert (10-1) can take a step forward off her debut, especially with another alert break. Indeed, she might have enough early foot to outrun the other presumptive front runners, a luxury she didn't have on debut.

Although run into submission on debut, she can improve off that initial run and at a much better price than what was on offer a couple of weeks ago.
