Spot Plays for Oaklawn Park Feb. 6, 2026

February 3rd, 2026

What a difference a six or seven days makes. After racing was canceled at Oaklawn all of last week due to the remnants of Winter Storm Fern, the rescheduled Southwest Day card on Friday is forecast to have abundant sunshine and a high of around 70 degrees. Not bad for the first full week of February.

A strong 12-race card awaits bettors, and here are some horses of interest.

Race 5: Maiden, 2:29 p.m. ET

#5 Mactak (6-1) was not expected to be as competitive first out as Southwest (G3) entry D'code in their mutual Dec. 14 debut, but Mactak might have fared better against that runaway winner with any semblance of a better trip. Instead, he was bothered leaving the gate and remained in the second tier throughout the six-furlong journey.

A descendant of multiple Grade 1 winner Lady Tak, Mactak can surely take a step forward here with blinkers and Lasix added. He has presumably been sporting the hood in a quartet of interim works, including a gate move on Jan. 10.

Race 8: General MacArthur Overnight S., 3:58 p.m. ET

It's not an easy jump from N1X allowance to a stakes, even one with restricted conditions like this, but #3 Super Cruise (7-2) looks like the type that can handle it.

The Uncle Mo colt has shown ability from the start. He's 2-for-4 and missed by a margin of only a length in each of his two setbacks. He beat a nice colt named Tap Into This when breaking his maiden here last April, and that rival has developed into a stakes winner here this winter.

Aside from the strong, consistent, and improving form, Super Cruise hails from a stable that has an excellent record of getting repeat winners (30% in recent seasons).

Race 10: Bugler Overnight S., 5:04 p.m. ET

Although #4 Hush It Honey (10-1) has had only one race in more than a year, trainer Randy Morse's ability to get this mare to fire fresh was evident in that one run, on Nov. 5, when she proved best in a second-level allowance at Churchill Downs going seven furlongs.

Competitive against the likes of graded winners Haulin Ice and Halinas Forte, Hush It Honey has a 4-for-6 record over the Oaklawn strip. Indeed, her only bad run here was in the slop, going 1 1/16 miles. She doesn't look at all out of place in this spot and at a potential square price.

Race 11: Southwest (G3), 5:40 p.m. ET

#11 Silent Tactic (20-1) has had three runs but never the benefit of an honest pace. Guessing that changes here, especially with the presence of eye-catching maiden winner D'code and the Baffert duo of Buetane and Litmus Test.

Despite never having the kind of fractions to set up a proper close, Silent Tactic has still run effectively. He followed up a debut over the Tapeta at Woodbine with a close second over the same track in the Grey (G3). In his dirt debut, in last month's Smarty Jones S., he made an adequate rally to finish second behind stablemate Strategic Risk, who was well positioned throughout to stalk and pounce behind tepid fractions.

Silent Tactic will have to quicken against this tougher and deeper field, but he remains with significant upside.
