Spot Plays for Sam Houston Bet Back Feb. 10

Racing at Sam Houston expands to Wednesdays for most of the remainder of the 2021 meet beginning Feb. 10, and each Wednesday TwinSpires will be offering the Sam Houston Bet Back. Players who opt in are eligible to get back up to $10 on their first straight win bet in each race with six (6) or more runners if their selection finishes second.

Here are horses of interest on the first Wednesday card of the season, which begins at 5:15 p.m. ET.

Race 3

This maiden special weight for three-year-olds over seven furlongs includes #6 FEEL THE BERNING (9-2), a Southern California transplant debuting here for Todd Fincher. Although uncompetitive, he deserves some slack for having faced some of the better juveniles on that circuit last summer. Indeed, two of the four horses ahead of him in his lone one-turn attempt, at Del Mar, included the eventual winners of the Del Mar Futurity (G1) and Los Alamitos Futurity (G2). Expecting better on the drop in class and the addition of Lasix.

Race 7

The feature on the card is a second-level allowance, with a $40,000 claiming option, for older horses at five furlongs on the turf. In the event of inclement weather, a multi-surface threat is #4 GRAB THE MUNNY (8-1). Although slightly overmatched over the main track late in the Remington meet, he's proven a much more useful sort on turf, over which he is 3-for-9, and over wet main tracks. A stalking type, he'd be one of several beneficiaries of a potential duel involving #1 Verrazano First and #6 J C's Nightcap, and possibly #7 Triple Creek as well.
