Race 7 | 4:51 pm ET / 2:51 pm local / 1:51 pm PT Zia Park Derby for 3yo going 1-1/16 mi. 7-BROADWAY EMPIRE certainly finds a little class relief after being overmatched earlier this month in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita. Prior to that 9th place finish, the son of Empire Maker was a 3-time stakes winner for trainer Robertino Diodoro. He'll be ridden by one of this barn's go-to riders Geovanni Franco (24% winners in 2013) and appears to be the controlling speed.
6-SHOW SOME MAGIC lost all chance at the start last time out in the 7 furlong Damascus Stakes last time out at Santa Anita. The son of Any Given Saturday was an allowance winner over this course two starts back, but remains winless in four route tries. This region's leading thoroughbred rider Enrique Gomez remounts.
2-CARVE has lost six straight for trainer Steve Asmussen. The son of First Samurai appears to have worked well leading up to this spot and he should be rolling on late.
Race 8 | 5:17 pm ET / 3:17 pm local / 2:17 pm PT Zia Park Oaks for 3yo F going 1-1/16 mi. 6-GOLD MEDAL DANCER is looking for her first career stakes win, coming in off a near-miss, second place outing in the Remington Park Oaks for trainer Donnie Von Hemel. Daughter of Medaglia d'Oro does her best work when allowed to race on the front end. Pace profile of the race looks like she'll be forwardly placed under one of this barn's go-to riders Luis Quinonez.
8-OSCAR PARTY ships in from Santa Anita, where the daughter of Dixie Union was off the board in a trouble-filled trip on the turf in the Grade 3 Autumn Miss. Her best recent effort was on a sloppy main track runner-up performance in the Hoosier State when she was second in the Grade 2 Indiana Oaks.
3-UNUSUAL WAY the morning line favorite has been off the board in her two most recent efforts, both grass starts at Del Mar on Aug. 17, then most recently on the dip at Santa Anita on Sept. 28. The daughter of Unusual Heat was last seen in New Mexico finishing a well-beaten second earlier this year behind Midnight Lucky in the Sunland Park Oaks.
