Spotlight Race of the Day for 11/29/2013
Spotlight Race of the Day
Friday, November 29th
Churchill Downs race 11
G1 Clark Handicap for 3&up going 1-1/8
5:35 pm ET / 2:35 pm PT
Weather: Sunny, with a high near 44. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon.
1. Game On Dude: speed draws the rail getting back to his best distance 2. Finnegans Wake: 4th-itis turfer will be rolling late 3. Bourbon Courage: back to his best distance and needed last off the layoff 4. Golden Ticket: 2nd-itis needs the lead all to himself 5. Prayer for Relief: speed is the king of the mid-level stakes circuit 6. Easter Gift: hasn’t done much wrong in his career 7. Will Take Charge: closer lays his body down every time 8. Our Double Play: speedy Horse4Course steps up 9. Jaguar Paw: given time after bad break & on trainer switch
Just like the Breeders’ Cup Classic a few weeks ago, there’s too much speed in the Clark: when everyone wants the lead, someone’s going to have to take back. Given the rail draw and Mike Smith’s impeccable timing, logic says Game On Dude will set the pace and – given his affinity for the distance – should be around the end. But he’ll have to contend with the stretch run of the freight train that is Will Take Charge: that big blazed chestnut has had a phenomenal fall campaign. Of the other challengers, Bourbon Courage definitely needed the race off the layoff last out and Prayer for Relief is likely to be in the exotic picture off a freshening (if he doesn’t go to the Hawthorne Gold Cup).
Selections: 7 – 1 – 3 – 5
