J La Tache, by Harlan's Holiday, is the first named foal from Grade 3-winning sprinter Palanka City. The Carson City mare is a full sister to multiple stakes-winning sprinter Quick Action, from the further family of Royal Academy, Pancho Villa, Terlingua and her famous son, Storm Cat. Because she's by a Storm Cat-line sire in Harlan's Holiday, J La Tache is inbred (3x2) to Storm Cat and his very close relative Indian Sunset. The Graham Motion pupil has been training sharply for her premiere.
Sky My Sky commanded $450,000 at OBS April after zipping a quarter-mile in a bullet :20 4/5 at her under tack show. The John Oxley colorbearer flashed high speed again in her most recent work for Mark Casse -- a bullet half-mile in :46.66 from the gate, best of 94 on the day. And she's got a pedigree to match, being by Bernardini and out of a full sister to French Oaks (G1) winner Nebraska Tornado. Her dam, the Storm Cat mare Dark Sky, is also a half-sister to Group/graded winners Burning Sun and Mirabilis.
Constellation doesn't come across as the same level of blueblood, which makes her $800,000 OBS March price tag all the more noteworthy. The daughter of Bellamy Road blasted one furlong in :9 4/5 at her under tack show, and she has continued to train smartly for Steve Asmussen. A half-sister to current stakes-placed sophomore Back Flip, she is the second registered foal from Mountaineer Juvenile Fillies winner For Royalty. Second dam Taft Lil Queen is a stakes-winning full sister to Irish Cherry, herself the dam of Grade 1 stars Spun Sugar and Daaher.
Storm Petrel could have taken the easy route in New York-bred company, so it could be significant that Todd Pletcher pitches her in here. The Congrats filly is out of a full sister to the brilliant Yankee Gentleman (famous as the broodmare sire of American Pharoah), from the immediate family of Grade 2-winning sprinter Half Ours and Grade 3 queen Khancord Kid (dam of Saturday's Test [G1] runner-up Bar of Gold). Next in the maternal line comes champion Shared Belief.
The Michelle Nevin-trained Tiz Fantastic is bred to win early as a daughter of Tiz Wonderful, whose debutantes win at a remarkable 20% rate. Her dam, the Danzig mare Legion of Merit, adds to the likelihood: all six of her starters have won, three of them as juveniles. Although she has few notable relatives close up, she descends from the family of General Assembly and Exclusive Native.
The Vapors is a $250,000 Keeneland September yearling bred to be quick, as a daughter of Congrats and a Forestry mare. Her dam is a half-sister to stakes winners Wasseema and Pitamakan, who both placed at the Group/graded level. Inbred to both Mr. Prospector and Seattle Slew, the Tony Dutrow trainee descends from the prodigiously influential matron Courtly Dee.
Louise the Laser drew in from the also-eligible list for Wesley Ward. The $220,000 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May purchase has more of a blue-collar look, being by Love of Money and out of a Partner's Hero mare. She is nonetheless a half-sister to Maryland Million Lassie winner My Magician, and the extended family is a constant stream of black-type (Rose's Cantina, Montreal Red, Fancy Naskra etc.).
Reincarnation is a Malibu Moon filly out of a Tactical Cat half-sister to Grade 1-winning sprinter Pohave, and Grade 3 heroine Tapicat is also in the immediate family. With her third dam being champion Track Robbery, she counts Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) hero Cat Thief as another maternal relation. Owned and trained by Ron Moquett, the nicely-bred gray could attract some offers with a good showing.
Godolphin's Desert Tune has a fantastic pedigree as a Street Cry half-sister to multiple Grade 1 star and millionaire Better Lucky, as well as Grade 3 scorer Sahara Heat. Their dam is Grade 2 vixen Sahara Gold, a daughter of Seeking the Gold and Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) heroine Desert Stormer. Unbeaten Fillies' Mile (G1) winner White Moonstone is also in this female line. Desert Tune may need time before living up to this exalted page, as a Tom Albertrani trainee and as a May 16 foal.
Soigne, a $160,000 Keeneland September yearling, makes her debut for Michael Matz. The distance appears a bit short for a daughter of Include, but she is out of a Forest Wildcat mare who has already produced four winners, all in sprints. This is the extended family of Judge T C, and more memorably, Ta Wee and Dr. Fager.
