Super Majesty bypassing Raven Run for BC F&M Sprint, clocks 5f

With trainer Jerry Hollendorfer on hand from his California base, once-beaten Super Majesty worked five furlongs in :59 under exercise rider Ian Craven on Wednesday at Keeneland.

Fractions for the move, accomplished after the renovation break, were :11.60, :23.40 and :35.20, with a six-furlong gallop-out in 1:12.60.

“That was very nice,” Hollendorfer said. “It was fast, but it looked like she did it easily and galloped out nice.”

It was Super Majesty’s second work at the Lexington, Kentucky, track since winning the Dogwood S. (G3) at Churchill Downs on September 19. The sophomore miss covered the same distance in 1:00.40 on October 5.

The daughter of Super Saver was nominated to Saturday’s Raven Run S. (G2) but will bypass that race and train up to the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) on October 31.

“We thought about both races, but after a lot of deliberation we opted for the Filly & Mare Sprint,” Hollendorfer said. “She will have one more work and then a little blowout six days before the race.”

A decision will soon be coming on whether Ageless will make the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) on October 31.

Trainer Arnaud Delacour said a second set of bandages are scheduled to come off Thursday from a cut sustained by the Successful Appeal six-year-old mare when winning the October 9 Franklin County S.

Ageless suffered a deep cut below her left hock in the run down the backstretch in the 5 1/2-furlong race and has been at the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute.

“We probably have to come up with a game plan tomorrow,” Delacour said regarding a possible start in the Turf Sprint. “The leg is as good as it gets. It depends on what it looks like.”

Ageless was second in last year’s Franklin County prior to a close fourth, beaten just three parts of a length, in the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Santa Anita Park.
