Site Read was a surprise winner of his debut on July 25, but will be well-backed to make it two in a row on Wednesday in the $200,000 With Anticipation (G2) at Saratoga. The 1 1/16-mile grass test for juveniles, a prep for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) at Keeneland, has attracted a field of six.
Trained by co-owner Bill Mott, who is not known for winning at a high percentage with first-time starters, Site Read was sent off at 21-1 in his course-and-distance debut. Near the back of the field early, the son of Tizdejavu made an impressive rally from 12 lengths down to win smartly by 4 1/2 lengths. His cause was aided by a strong pace of :22 3/5, :46 2/5, and 1:11 2/5.
The pace of the With Anticipation, even with two front runners, is unlikely to be as fast as what Site Read encountered first time out. Monster Bea set a more moderate tempo of :23 2/5, :48, and 1:11 4/5 when upsetting a maiden field on August 8 in his second career start.
Azar went even slower -- :24 1/5, :49 1/5 and 1:13 4/5 -- before yielding very late to fellow Todd Pletcher charge Unbridled Daddy by three parts of a length in an August 16 maiden event. That pair will be meeting for a third time after running seventh and fourth, respectively, in their July 19 debut at Belmont.
The field is rounded out by Next Shares, who was gelded following a close-second place finish in his Ellis Park debut August 1, and Runaway King, who landed his turf debut by a half-length at Delaware Park August 5.
