Tampa Bay stakes picks for February 6

February 5th, 2021

Four black-type events, with three being of the graded variety, will headline a fine afternoon of racing at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday. I really like the card that Tampa will play host to, and I see a lot of enticing races on the slate that will offer great value, especially in the quartet of stakes frays.

Sam F. Davis S. (G3)

The headliner for sophomores attracted an overflow field of 13 prospects in what looks to me like a fine betting opportunity. I have a pair of colts that interest me most, led by #9 Candy Man Rocket (10-1). Bill Mott trainee was superb in a dominating maiden triumph at Gulfstream Park last time out, and I expect the Kentucky-bred to prosper in his first two-turn endeavor. Dark bay will be forwardly placed throughout.

It’s hard to overlook that #3 Known Agenda (6-1) defeated Holy Bull (G3) winner Greatest Honour in a maiden outing two prior. Pletcher charge was outrun over a sloppy, sealed surface in the Remsen (G2) in his juvenile finale, but the Curlin colt would be of no surprise in the Sam F. Davis. John Velazquez riding adds to his appeal.

Endeavour S. (G3)

Fillies and mares will travel 1 1/16 miles on the green in a competitive affair. Bill Mott’s #6 New York Girl (4-1) impressed me in her facile allowance tally against lesser at Gulfstream Park in her stateside bow. New Approach chestnut faces a much tougher cast in this spot, but she could be a real nice one going forward with expected improvement.

Tampa Bay S. (G3)

This 1 1/16-mile turf test attracted a huge field of 12, and I have to find value in the sizable cast. #2 Admission Office (6-1) ran like a horse needing a start off the layoff most recently for Lynch. Point of Entry six-year-old is a high-level performer with a fine turn of foot, and he will get a solid early pace to run at on Saturday. Leparoux will ride and save ground throughout atop the bay.

Suncoast S.

#2 Feeling Mischief (9-2) gives the impression of a filly who will thrive on the stretch out for Campbell. Sandpiper S. queen has great experience on the track, and she has the tactical foot to be placed in a good spot throughout the affair, as well. Bay daughter of Into Mischief will be the best price of her career on the tote board, too.
