The Jury: Expert Picks, Bets, and Fades for July 26

July 24th, 2025

The TwinSpires Jury of Ashley Anderson, James Scully, and Darin Zoccali discuss their best bets and fades at Saratoga for the Jim Dandy (G2) card, Woodbine, and Del Mar

Five sophomores, including Kentucky Derby (G1) and Belmont S. (G1) victor Sovereignty, will compete in the 1 1/8-mile Jim Dandy S. (G2), the local prep for the 1 1/4-mile Travers (G1) on Aug. 23 at Saratoga.

The Bill Mott trainee was installed as the 2-5 morning-line favorite and will re-oppose Belmont S. third #1 Baeza (3-1), along with fifth-place finisher #4 Hill Road (12-1). The likely pacesetter in the field, #3 Mo Plex (10-1) is coming off a two-length victory in the 1 1/8-mile Ohio Derby (G3) at Thistledown. Rounding out the field is Arkansas Derby (G1) winner Sandman, who was last seen placing third in the Preakness (G1).

Earlier on the 12-race card, three-year-old fillies will cover 1 1/16 miles on Saratoga's inner turf in the Lake George (G3). #5 Classic Q (2-1) is the shortest price on the morning line among the main body of the field. The Classic Empire filly went gate to wire in the one-mile Wild Applause at Saratoga on July 3, when she held off a late challenge from Play With Fire, who drew post 10 in the Lake George.

Classic Q is trained by Mark Casse, who entered two in the one-mile Ontario Colleen (G3), set to go off as the eighth race at Woodbine on Saturday. Tiz Her Money is a 6-1 price in the nine-horse field and will return to turf after racing on all-weather in her last four starts. Stablemate Candy Quest is 8-1 on the morning line and will pick up Sahin Civaci, a 23% winner at Woodbine this meet.

The morning-line favorite #3 Pretty Lavish (5-2) finished a rallying second last out in the 1 1/16-mile Boiling Springs S. at Monmouth.

Other major stakes action will occur at Del Mar on Saturday, with three stakes on tap, including the six-furlong Bing Crosby (G1), a Breeders' Cup Win and You're In event for the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1).

The 1 1/16-mile San Diego H. (G2) will feature Nysos in his second try at two turns for trainer Bob Baffert. The multiple graded stakes winner is stretching out to 8 1/2 furlongs for the first time in his career, and Baffert is hopeful the Nyquist colt may be able to handle even longer as a Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) prospect.
