Thoughts on the 20-cent, multi-day, all-stakes Pick 6 at Saratoga

A multi-day, all-stakes Pick 6, a concept spawned on Kentucky Derby weekend this past spring, makes another appearance on Saturday and Sunday at Saratoga. With a 15% takeout, 20-cent minimum, and a mandatory payout, it's one of the more attractive wagers available on any menu, anywhere.
Here's how I'll be approaching the wager.
Saturday
Leg 1 -- Race 8 -- Test (G1)
#5 ROYAL CHARLOTTE (3-1) is undefeated after four starts and looks as if she'll sit an ideal trip off a potential pace duel involving Covfefe and Serengeti Empress. #4 TRENCHTOWN CAT (12-1) is another that would benefit from a hot pace up front. Exits a second-place finish to older fillies in the Princess Rooney (G2) at Gulfstream.
Leg 2 -- Race 9 -- Whitney (G1)
The early thought was to try and beat morning line favorite #6 MCKINZIE (7-5), who has fallen short in three of his last four starts as a short-priced contender. However, the Saturday morning scratch of Thunder Snow leaves one less obstacle in McKinzie's way. Late bloomer #8 PRESERVATIONIST (3-1), who has the tactical foot to be involved early and comes off a big win in the Suburban (G2), is a logical inclusion.
Leg 3 -- Race 10 -- $100,000 De La Rose
If #8 GOT STORMY (3-1) maintains the much-improved form she displayed this past spring in the Jenny Wiley (G1) and Churchill Distaff Turf Mile (G2), she'll be tough. #9 STELLA DI CAMELOT (4-1), a stakes winner on debut in America last fall, should take a step forward off her closing third in the shorter Intercontinental (G3) in her seasonal bow.
Sunday
Leg 4 -- Race 5 -- Waya (G3)
Except for a blip in last fall's Breeders' Cup, #4 SANTA MONICA's (1-1) U.S. form has been consistently strong. The one to beat on class. #6 GENTLE RULER (5-2) has found her calling going 1 1/2 miles on the turf. Wouldn't discount chances of a fourth consecutive win following stakes scores at Churchill and Delaware.
Leg 5 -- $1 million Saratoga Derby
Gut feeling is that the more capable horses in last month's Belmont Derby (G1) were neither of the top two finishers: longshots Henley's Joy and Social Paranoia, the latter of whom has a tendency to settle for minor awards. Still looks like a spread race and will use the next three finishers in the Belmont Derby -- #4 ROCKEMPEROR (7-2), #8 DIGITAL AGE (9-2), and #9 SEISMIC WAVE (6-1). #10 MOHAWK (10-1) comes off a Group 3 win in Ireland and has a fine piece of form from May when second to Circus Maximus in the Dee Stakes at Chester. Lightly-raced #6 KADAR (30-1) has much room for improvement following a photo-finish loss in his U.S. debut. By Scat Daddy, his dam is a Sinndar half-sister to Breeders' Cup Turf (G1) winner Kalanisi.
Leg 6 -- Adirondack (G2)
The three Churchill graduates -- #2 FRANK'S ROCKETTE (2-1), #3 PERFECT ALIBI (9-2), and $125,000 Debutante winner #8 MAGIC DANCE (7-5) -- all look capable in this historic fixture for juvenile fillies.
Here's the 20-cent ticket:
4,5 with 4,8 with 8,9 with 4,6 with 4,6,8,9,10 with 2,3,8 = $48.
