Tipsheet: 2026 Breeders’ Futurity

A high-quality field of six juveniles will run 1 1/16 miles over the main surface at Keeneland in Saturday’s $650,000 Breeders’ Futurity (G1), with the winner receiving a berth into the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) at this venue on Oct. 30.

Breeders’ Futurity Contenders

#1 COACH POPE: Kenny McPeek pupil was second in a key race on debut at Saratoga prior to dominating his foes at one mile at Churchill Downs last time out. The bay son of Tapit showed expected improvement with the distance increase last time, and he will be formidable if he takes another step forward after registering a 99 Brisnet Speed rating beneath the Twin Spires. Jose Ortiz retains the mount. 

#2 Q B ROCKET: I loved the first-out score from this Gun Runner colt at Saratoga on Aug. 15 and believe that he is a prime two-year-old prospect. The Brad Cox trainee had more to offer late in his sprint victory over a good cast, and the works in advance of this seem to be positive. The $1.9 million yearling purchase will have Junior Alvarado coming in to keep the ride. 

#3 PHONE BOOTH: California import has been second behind the excellent Hughes in a pair of runs in succession and fits well in this spot. The Doug O’Neill-trained son of Pavel has improved his Speed number in every run as the distances have increased, and the May foal could surely have another step forward in him with regular pilot Umberto Rispoli in for the mount. 

#4 TITLE WORTHY: Unbeaten sort for Dallas Stewart rises up in class and will also go a route of ground for the initial time. The son of Title Ready has been forward in both sprint assignments to date and will be forcing the pace from the break in his local debut under Corrales. 

#5 JADED: Wildcard in the field for Mark Casse put in a big late run to graduate at first asking on the lawn at Kentucky Downs and will go long on the dirt in this endeavor. The $250,000 son of Olympiad trains well on the main oval and also gets Irad, so he can be interesting from off the pace at a fair price for a top outfit. 

#6 AMERICAN HISTORY: Second-timer from the Pletcher shedrow drew off to a commanding tally at The Spa in his unveiling, and while I’m not sure if the son of Constitution toppled a great field, he was very impressive, nonetheless. The $825,000 chestnut came home fast in his sprint romp and is bred to thrive going two turns, as well. John Velazquez retains the ride, and the colt wouldn’t be a surprise.
