2026 Gamely Stakes Contenders

#1 PUBLIC ASSEMBLY: The first of two from the D’amato shedrow hasn’t won in more than 12 months but is a consistent sort who has a sure exotics chance in the grassy affair. The More Than Ready chestnut is a Grade 3 heroine on the course who comes off a pair of nice tries as of late, and she will be saving ground throughout with Joel Rosario on board.

#2 HANG THE MOON: Former D’Amato pupil has run a pair of good ones since going for trainer Saffie Joseph and returns to California, where she has a two-for-four mark on the course. The six-year-old daughter of Uncle Mo bagged a Grade 2 race on the oval in 2024, and her best performance will give her a top-three chance with Flavien Prat inheriting the mount.

#3 A THOUSAND MILES: Stakes victress from the Belvoir barn has never won on the grass from six career turf outings to date and looks to be in a tough spot in the affair. The four-year-old chestnut would be a surprise with Mike Smith taking the reins.

#4 TAKE A BREATH: European import has found her best footing with a pair of Grade 3 wins in succession on the oval and has to be given a look on this occasion. The Bated Breath four-year-old owns a big closing punch and has shown her versatility in winning at both eight and 10 furlongs in her last two outings. The peaking filly will have Emisael Jaramillo in the stirrups.

#5 THOUGHT PROCESS: D’Amato pupil has been excellent since her two-year-old season and seems worthy of a Grade 1 tally. The well-managed daughter of Collected is three-for-three on the local grass and is also six-for-eight on the green overall, and the chestnut also has room for improvement with just nine career runs to her credit, too. She has led in the lane in every career try on turf in advance of Monday and will be formidable under regular pilot Hector Berrios.

#6 VRONTI: Improving sort from the Motion shedrow has won two of her three races since arriving in the states and will take a hefty class rise in her first run in the Golden State. The Night of Thunder four-year-old topped a pretty solid allowance field at Keeneland in her latest appearance and is surely moving in the right direction, and she will also benefit from having Juan Hernandez in the silks, too. The bay will make one run from well off the pace in the contest.

#7 RASHMI: Former claimer is a two-time Grade 3 victress who will be the one to catch in this spot. The Jonathan Thomas charge came off the 12-month layoff to blitz her foes from the break in the Wilshire (G3) in her 2026 unveiling and could surely move forward going second time off the shelf. The Oscar Performance filly has good early speed and will likely be sent from the start once again with Kimura retaining the ride.

#8 MAY DAY READY: Two-time Grade 2 starlet rallied to be runner-up in the Royal Heroine (G3) in her initial run for Richard Mandella and first run of 2026 last time out. The Tapit four-year-old will get more ground to work with in her second try of the season, and she comes in with a bullet five-furlong drill as of late, as well. I expect Antonio Fresu to have her reserved and in the clear early before asking the four-year-old for her best run approaching the turn for home.
