Woodbine Mile Contenders

#1 DETERMINISTIC (2-1): Fantastic son of Liam’s Map has won six graded races in succession coming into this one, led by four Grade 1 victories, for conditioner Miguel Clement. The streaking five-year-old has rolled home to fine scores in his last pair of tries at the one-mile distance, and he is well placed on the rail for his local debut, as well. The speedy sort will be forcing the action from the break with regular rider Kendrick Carmouche in the silks. 

#2 GAS ME UP (12-1): Fast-closing son of Hard Spun got up late in the King Edward (G1) on the course last time and was a solid third in the race in 2025. The Kevin Attard trainee is four-for-six on the turf locally and has room to improve in this one while making his second run since March. Fraser Aebly will guide the six-year-old. 

#3 NOTABLE SPEECH (1-1): Godolphin homebred is among the top milers in the world and is the defending champ in the race for excellent trainer Charlie Appleby. The Dubawi five-year-old, who is the reigning Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) winner, has won Group 1 races in two of his last three tries and comes in with fine form in hopes of defending his title in the tilt. William Buick comes in to retain the mount on this classy chestnut. 

#4 ARCHIVIST (6-1): Four-year-old son of Dubawi comes in with a pair of nice tallies in succession, led by a Group 3 score at York most recently. The chestnut gelding is a fine four-for-five at the one-mile trip and could be any kind while making his North American debut with Joao Moreira coming in for the voyage. 

#5 IRISH ACES (15-1): Consistently good one from the barn of Brendan Walsh just missed in the King Edward in a local prep for the race last time out and could challenge for a piece with a forward move on this occasion. The Mshawish six-year-old is a good middle-distance runner who has shown improvement since having blinkers added four back, and he will be stalking the early action with Pietro Moran on board. 

#6 SILIUS (12-1):  Enters off a Group 3 tally in France and has been in very good form in 2026. The Dubawi colt loves the distance with a 10-5-1-2 mark at one mile, and the chestnut defeated a few good ones last time for Ferland. The Irish-bred will have John Velazquez in the silks. 

#7 ITSASTORMYMONDAY (30-1): Donald McCrae pupil has won a pair of allowance races in succession on the local green but faces a major class test in this endeavor. The four-year-old son of Get Stormy is going well this campaign, but the gelding would be a major surprise in his stakes debut under Rafael Hernandez. 

#8 PIERRE (20-1): Five-year-old son of Tapiture just missed in a deep allowance race at Saratoga last time when a big runner-up, and he landed in this demanding spot for trainer David Jacobson. The Ontario-bred bay has won or placed in all four lifetime runs on the surface, but he will need to take a big step forward to challenge this cast beneath Javier Castellano.
