Toews on Ice stormed to the lead leaving the far turn and comfortably proved best in Saturday’s $100,000 William Walker, scoring by two lengths over a sloppy track at Churchill Downs. David Lopez was up on the Bob Baffert-trained 3-year-old colt and Toews on Ice completed six furlongs in 1:10.91.

By Archarcharch, Toews on Ice is owned by Karl Watson, Mike Pegram and Paul Weitman. The dark bay recorded his fourth stakes victory, including a graded win in the Bob Hope (G3), and finished second to Kentucky Derby (G1) contender Mor Spirit in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G1) in mid-December.

Toews on Ice tracked pacesetter Twizz through an opening quarter-mile in :21.62 before sticking a head in front through a half-mile in :45.09.

Favored at even-money on the opening-night program, Toews on Ice has now earned $307,700 from an 8-4-1-2 record. He hadn’t started since a sixth as the 3-5 favorite in the January 18 Smarty Jones at Oaklawn Park.

Toews on Ice was bred in Kentucky by Lakland Farm and was purchased for $110,000 as a 2014 Keeneland September Sale yearling. He’s out of the Grade 3-placed D’wildcat mare Wild Forest Cat.
