Trio of Charles Town Allowance Races Highlight Sophomore Fillies
Typically weeknight cards at most thoroughbred tracks leave a lot to be desired, but Wednesday night's program at Charles Town were highlighted by a trio of allowance events for state-bred three-year-old fillies that proved to have plenty in common.
In the first of those three events contested roughly an hour apart, Cuttin Edge Tech lived up to her role as the 3-5 favorite when she gained command soon after the break, opened a clear lead on the far turn and just outlasted Aye Fancey for a half-length score.
A sophomore daughter of Fiber Sonde trained by Crystal Pickett for owner-breeder Karl B. Johnson, Sr., Cuttin Edge Tech notched her second win in three career tries just three days before she reaches her official third birthday on April 1.
Then one race later on the card, Moonlit Song also lived up to her role as the 2-5 choice in a two-turn allowance for state-bred fillies and mares when she shook loose from serious pressure down the backside them drew clear late despite drifting out through the lane.

Another sophomore daughter of Fiber Sonde owned, bred and trained by Tim Grams, Moonlit Song notched her second straight score and third win in five career tries. Wednesday marked her first attempt in a two-turn affair and she responded favorably despite the early pressure.
Then one race later in a one-turn allowance dash for state-bred fillies, Lies And Scandals lived up to her billing as the 3-5 choice when she gained command soon after the break and drew clear in the lane to a six-length score.
Another daughter of Fiber Sonde owned, bred and trained by John McKee, Lies And Scandals recorded her first win in three starts this year and her second victory in six lifetime tries after getting the 4 1/2 furlongs in 52.51.
Not only are Cuttin Edge Tech, Moonlit Song and Lies And Scandals are homebred three-year-old daughters of Fiber Sonde, all three met six weeks earlier in a one-turn allowance dash won by Moonlit Song and now all three appear destined to meet again in the $50,000 It's Binn Too Long Stakes for state-bred three-year-old fillies on April 22 on the undercard of the Grade II, $1.25 million Charles Town Classic for older males.
