A $67,399 carryover in the Pick 5 pool is on the line at Turfway Park on Wednesday, starting in the opener.
Race 1 -- Maiden Claiming (6:15 p.m ET)
Six-furlong dash for juvenile fillies attracted an overflow cast of 14, and I have to spread in a tough first leg. #1 Late for Tap (6-1) and #5 Threatlevelmidnite (7-2) are a pair with experience that I will use, along with first-time starters #2 My Dear Lolita (3-1), #3 Hafsa Hatun (12-1), #7 Dimples of Venus (4-1), and #8 Tale of Kitten (4-1).
Race 2 -- Claiming (6:44 p.m. ET)
The one-mile contest shows a full field of contenders, led by Larry Rivelli’s #6 Wild Weekend (2-1). First-time gelding takes a huge class drop and rates a big chance with a top effort.
I will also use #5 The Humungus One (3-1), who has won or placed in all six lifetime tries on All-Weather surfaces.
Race 3 -- Claiming (7:13 p.m. ET)
A dash for the boys is the middle leg of the sequence with a dozen set to go postward. Morning-line choice #2 Corot (3-1) is a must use in my opinion for Hollendorfer. Dark bay rolls in with tallies in three straight and also drops in class for his local debut.
#5 Torazo (5-1) has the right running style in a field with a lot of pace, and the gelding will appreciate the cut back in distance, as well. #9 Can’t Say No (9-2) is 7-for-17 on synthetic ovals and would be no surprise for Rivelli.
Race 4 -- Claiming (7:42 p.m.)
The 6 1/2-furlong sprint for the boys attracted 14 in total, with a dozen to go postward. My top pick is recent maiden hero #1 Whiskey Chaser (5-1), who has improved his Brisnet Speed figure in four straight races for Denzik.
#3 Final Delivery (5-1) also makes the ticket as a contender with speed in a cast lacking an abundance of early pace.
Race 5 -- Maiden Special Weight (8:12 p.m.)
The finale is a 6-furlong affair for 2-year-old fillies. I will put all my eggs in the basket of #12 Cuzzywuzzy (3-1) and conditioner Eddie Kenneally. Vancouver filly has faced some fine foes this campaign, and she could shine in her local bow despite drawing widest of all.
If #13 Regal Song (4-1) draws into the body of the field, I give her a winning chance, as well.
Suggested Pick 5 ticket:
- 1,2,3,5,7,8 with 5,6 with 2,5,9 with 1,3 with 12,13
Good Luck!
