Two fillies join original seven in rescheduled Busanda

January 29th, 2016

The $100,000 Busanda S., a points race on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks rescheduled from last Saturday due to Winter Storm Jonas, has been carded as one of two stakes events on Sunday at Aqueduct.

Kentucky Oaks (G1) eligibility points of 10-4-2-1 will be awarded to the first four finishers in the race, which produced 2013 Oaks winner Princess of Sylmar.

The mile-and-70-yard contest was redrawn and ended up with the original group of seven sophomore fillies plus two more.

Despite the extra competition, Alto Belle, remains the likely horse to beat on the Big A's inner dirt after running off into another zip code when defeating maiden rivals on Aqueduct's main track in November.

Second by a neck in her debut and sixth when trying the turf second out, Alto Belle put it all together in the mud November 20, burying four maiden rivals by a winning margin of 18 1/2 lengths. Irad Ortiz Jr. takes the mount Sunday from the Florida-based John Velazquez.

Flora Dora was the only one in the original Busanda field with any prior stakes appearance, but is joined in the new bunch by Lost Raven and Invite.

Flora Dora captured the $500,000 My Dear Girl division of the Florida Sires S. at Gulfstream in October and subsequently tried graded company twice in November. The First Dude filly finished second by a half-length in the Tempted (G3) and fourth in the Demoiselle (G2).

Lost Raven and Invite also competed in the Demoiselle, with the former running fifth and the latter coming in sixth under the wire. Lost Raven sandwiched the Demoiselle between a pair of stakes runs at Laurel Park that resulted in a three-length Smart Halo S. victory and runner-up effort in the Marshua S.

Scatoosh, who broke her maiden New Year's Day in her sixth start, is joined by other recent maiden grads Arch Or Nothing and Dreams to Reality, who earned her first win running for a $75,000 tag. Kentucky Road, recently second in a starter allowance, and the maiden She's So Fine complete the field.

Earlier on Aqueduct’s Sunday card, 10 sophomore fillies will line up in the $100,000 Maddie May S. restricted to New York-breds.
