A total of nine fillies and mares will go a one-turn mile at Gulfstream Park on Friday in the $125,000 Rampart S. I will look for some value in the tilt and give a big chance to multiple stakes heroine #9 Sterling Silver (6-1) in her debut for trainer Anthony Margotta.
Rampart Stakes Wagers
- $10 exacta box 7-9 ($20)
- $.50-cent superfecta 7,9 with 7,9 with 2,4 with all ($12)
- $.50-cent superfecta 7,9 with 7,9 with all with 2,4 ($12)
Rampart Stakes Analysis
By Cupid, the six-year-old was last seen rallying for an open-length victory in the Iroquois S. at Aqueduct and ships in for her first attempt over this course. The New York-bred six-year-old dons a 5-2-2-0 mark at the distance, and I feel that she is a fine fit for a one-turn mile in a race with a lot of pace in it. She has recorded four morning works leading up to the tilt, and the mare will be making one run from off the pace beneath Javier Castellano.
#7 One Magic Phiily (2-1) has run a pair of good ones as of late since arriving in the barn of Brendan Walsh and is the one to beat. Grade 3 winner was last seen running second throughout behind a fine prospect in the Chilukki (G3) at Churchill Downs and will be a major force with even slight improvement in this contest. The bay daughter of Good Magic is another who seems ideally suited to a race of this distance going forward, and the four-year-old will receive a very good trip drawing outside of the other pace in the race. Tyler Gaffalione will be in the stirrups.
#2 Luvumorgan (20-1) is one of three in the group for trainer Saffie Joseph and could make the frame at a huge number in her first run since the summer. A winner of the Game Face S. on the oval in May, the sophomore faces a stiff test facing her elders for the first time in the tilt, but the works have been solid, and she has the raw ability to run with this field on her best day. She’s worth using at a price with Edgard Zayas signed on.
Early speed often plays quite well on this surface, so the fleet #4 Grand Job (7-2) will surely be included in the vertical plays. The four-year-old daughter of Justify didn’t fire off the long absence in Louisville most recently, but she was a close second in the Royal Delta (G3) at this venue earlier in the season, and the Bill Mott charge appears to be the quickest contender in the cast. Junior Alvarado will take the reins.
