Saratoga: How to bet the Coronation Cup Stakes July 11

A fleet and promising group of sophomore fillies will jaunt 5 1/2 furlongs on the Saratoga green in Friday’s $175,000 Coronation Cup S. (G3). Trainer Jose D’Angelo has a pair of good ones in the field, and both merit inclusion, in my opinion.

Coronation Cup Stakes Expert Racing Analysis
#3 Cloe (5-2) is the pace of the race and will get top billing to take this cast all the way on the front end. The bay daughter of Tiz the Law was a stakes winner on the Gulfstream turf at five furlongs three back, finished a solid third in a trek to the Golden State for the Senorita S. (G3) two prior, and was last seen rallying to be second in the off-the-turf Soaring Softly S. at this venue in her first run with blinkers on.
The $80,000 yearling purchase gets back on her preferred surface on Friday and lands in a spot without much gate speed. I feel as though the filly will be very difficult to run down if she clears in the early stages of the dash with Irad Ortiz Jr. retaining the mount.
#5 Spirited Boss (6-1) was a convincing winner of the Sanibel Island S. on the Gulfstream green three back and followed that up with a clear runner-up finish in the grassy Honey Ryder S. over the same ground two back. The D’Angelo pupil was third in the aforementioned Soaring Softly on the dirt but will relish the return to turf racing following a nice half-mile spin on the sod in advance of this endeavor. She will be closing fast from well off the pace with John Velazquez taking the reins.
The Miguel Clement-trained #1 Make Haste (2-1) dominated allowance runners at Gulfstream Park most recently and will make her third run since importing to the states. Blue Point sophomore showed a big measure of speed from the gate in her recent triumph, and she has trained well in the interim, too. The bay was only 2 1/4 lengths shy of the top pick in her U. S. debut in March and would not be a surprise against this cast with Flavien Prat inheriting the ride.
