A full slate of juvenile races is on tap at Churchill Downs on Saturday with a trio of Pick 4 wagers available, and I feel confident about the early sequence.
Pick 4 Starts in Race 2, Wagers:
- $.50-cent Pick 4: 1,4,11 with 5,8,10,11,12 with all with 4 ($45)
- $1 Pick 4: 1,4,11 with 5,8,10,11,12 with 6 with 4 ($15)
Race 2 – Maiden Special Weight
A one-mile jaunt on the grass for the boys attracted a full field to commence the play. There is no standout in the cast, and since I have a single later in the wager, I will spread with three to get things going. #11 Untethered is a full-brother to Group 2 winner and from the family of Summer S. (G1) Argos for Cherie DeVaux. He could be live on debut under Jose Ortiz.
#1 Happy Prince has improved since having blinkers added three back, and the son of Cairo Prince is the speed of the field from the rail. He will have Irad up. Brendan Walsh will send out first timer #4 Gairloch, and I have a hard time omitting any youngsters from this barn as of late. The McKinzie gelding is training steadily and will have Gaffalione in the stirrups.

Race 3 – Maiden Special Weight
An overflow field of juvenile fillies has been entered for the seven-furlong dash on the main strip. #12 Presumptuous was in the mix early and faded back to fifth under the wire in a decent debut offering at Keeneland for Walsh. The Godolphin homebred is out of a stakes-winning sprinter and will have blinkers on for the initial time.
#10 White Smoke is from a family of fast and accomplished runners, and the filly has been posting some swift morning drills in advance of her unveiling. Fellow first timers #5 Powered by Family, #8 Noble Glow, and #11 Majestical will also make the ticket.
Race 4 – Eddie Brown S.
The 6 1/2-furlong dash on the dirt will see six speedy juvenile colts go postward. California import #6 Boyd was awesome in his lone race to date for Bob Baffert and is the one to beat from an ideal outside post under Prat. The seven-figure son of Violence will race with the blinkers off and will be formidable with anything resembling his first appearance.
With that said, this field is loaded with talented runners who all have a legitimate chance at winning, and I’ll buy the race and hope to find value upending the favorite on one of my tickets.

Race 5 – Allowance/Optional Claiming
#4 It’s Our Time devastated a special weight field at first asking at Saratoga while earning a 100 Brisnet Speed rating. The Tom Amoss pupil was caught chasing a wicked early pace behind a super-impressive winner in the Champagne S. (G1) last time out, and he will appreciate the class relief in this allowance tilt. The January foal has posted two bullet morning drills as of late and will be formidable with Irad in the stirrups.
