Pick 4 of the Week: Colonial Downs Saturday

I’ll take a swing at the middle Pick 4 on the fine Colonial Downs Saturday card, which features a trio of turf sprints among the four tilts.
Race 4 Wager
- 50-cent Pick 4: 4,7,10,12 with 6 with 3,6,7,8,10,12 with 1,2,5 ($36)
Race 4 – Maiden Special Weight
Turf dash for juvenile fillies attracted a full field of 12 to commence the play. #4 Arete (9-2) is kin to a trio of winners on the lawn and is by fine turf influence, Twirling Candy. The April foal from the Russell shedrow runs for a fine debut conditioner and is a must-use.
The expensive #7 Cooperation (7-2), morning-line choice #10 Ginger Snap (5-2), and Live Oak homebred #12 In Her Glory (4-1) will also make the ticket.
Race 5 – Allowance
Seven fillies and mares will run one mile on the dirt in the second piece of the sequence. The Riley Mott-trained #6 Disco Rules (3-2) has the most upside of any contender in the field and will be a single on my ticket. Constitution homebred was a game winner in her dirt debut two back, and was last seen rallying for a second-place finish beneath the Twin Spires most recently. If Axel Concepcion can keep the sophomore in striking range early, then I expect her to run clear in the lane.

Race 6 – Claiming
A turf sprint for the boys at 5 1/2 furlongs will have a full cast go postward in arguably the most challenging leg of the sequence. #7 Lazio (5-2) could be something of a standout on the major class plunge, but I don’t feel that he is a sure thing for Mary Lightener. The Bucchero chestnut exits a very strong heat where the winner returned to crush stakes foes next time, and improvement off of his latest will make him especially tough. It’s worth noting that the colt graduated on the course with authority last campaign, as well.
#3 Bigonzetti (5-1), #6 Sir Chance a Lot (10-1), #8 No Cents Non Cents (10-1), and #10 Graydaria (4-1), and #12 Street Hockey (20-1), each has a level of appeal to me and will be included as insurance in the heat.
Race 7 – Glenn Petty S.
The closing part of the play is for fillies and mares dashing 5 1/2 furlongs on the green in a $125,000 affair. Defending champ #5 Mystic Seaport (4-5) is the most likely winner of the race for Jamie Ness. The Midshipman mare likes the surface and is five-for-eight on the lawn in total. But, defeating the short-priced favorite would be huge for value in the wager, so I’ll toss in a pair of other runners.
#1 Chickahominy (7-2), who came home third in the race in 2024, as well as Delacour’s #2 Three Times (9-2), are the additions.
