Pick 4 of the Week: Gulfstream Park Saturday, March 28

March 26th, 2026

The $1 million Florida Derby (G1) will cap a massive, 14-race card at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, and I will go for the third of the four Pick 4 sequences offered on the huge afternoon.

Race 7 Wager

Race 7 – Ghostzapper (G3)

A smart field will vie in the 1 1/16-mile contest on the main oval to commence the play, and it’s very hard to look past Todd Pletcher’s #2 Grande. The once-beaten son of Curlin was super game in denying a nice one in an allowance tilt off the long break in his latest performance, and the four-year-old will be impossible to knock off if he improves second time off the shelf. John Velazquez will guide the lightly raced colt.

Race 8 – Orchid (G3)

Seven fillies and mares will go 1 1/2 miles on the lawn in the second leg, with six of the seven having achieved graded or group success in the past. I view it as a very wide-open race with contenders breaking from every post, and I will utilize the ‘all’ button to get through to the third portion of the play.

Race 9 – Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2)

The key Kentucky Oaks (G1) qualifying affair, and I will include the three most logical runners in the heat with Rachel Alexandra (G2) third, #4 Just Singing, impressive maiden romper #5 Prom Queen, and sensational Davona Dale (G2) heroine #6 She Be Smooth

Race 10 – Sanibel Island S.

Sophomore fillies will jaunt 7 1/2 panels on the lawn to close out the wager. I expect the major players in the race coming from the outer post slots in the tilt and will use a trio of fillies to close it out. #8 Laigina was fourth in the especially deep Florida Oaks (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs most recently and gets back on a surface where she has two wins and a stakes second from three career outings. Joel Rosario will guide the Leinster filly.

European imports #9 Secret Hideaway and #10 Smexy, both from the barn of Brendan Walsh, will be added to the ticket.
