An enticing closing four-race sequence on a fine Saturday of racing at Keeneland will make up the Pick 4 of the Week.
Race 7 Wager
50-cent Pick 4: 2,6,7,8 with 4 with 2,3,4,6,9 with 1,5,6,10,11 ($50)
Race 7 – Maiden Special Weight
Juvenile ladies will run one mile on the grass in a difficult first piece of the play. The race features a handful of potentially well-meant first-time starters, and I will use four of the debuting fillies.
#2 Correlated Risk (8-1), #6 Tannhauser (5-1), #7 Rumana (9-2), and #8 Shelley B (15-1) are the ones.
Race 8 – Allowance/ Optional Claiming
A cast of 11 males will run about seven panels on the main surface in the second leg of the wager, and I found my single with Juddmonte homebred #4 Bold Strength (5-2). Conditioned by Brad Cox, the consistent four-year-old has been good this campaign while facing some honest allowance runners and is a fine fit in this field. Constitution colt will make his third run off the short absence and will be close to the pace from the break with Irad Ortiz Jr. in the irons.
Race 9 – Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1)
A fascinating renewal of the historic race is the third leg of the sequence. #2 Luster (5-2) is surely the one to beat and would be no surprise as the expected odds-on choice in the grassy tilt. But as much as I like the Josie Carroll pupil, she faces a strong field, and going deep in the affair could add a lot of value to the play.
Del Mar Oaks (G1) heroine #3 Tam Tam (4-1), Grade 3 victress #4 Faithful Departed (7-2), French shipper #6 Braida (8-1), and #9 Kensington Lane (8-1) all merit a lot of respect in the feature.
Race 10 – Maiden Special Weight
An overflow field of fillies entered to dash six panels on the dirt in the finale. Bob Baffert’s #11 Kaykay (5-2) has improved with each run to date, and the daughter of Charlatan will be tough with another forward move on Saturday.
First-timers #1 Elusive Ring (6-1), #6 Enchantingmistress (10-1), and #10 Big Life (8-1), as well as Ian Wilkes’ #5 Ghost Sense (12-1), will also be included to close out the card.
