Playing Sunday’s Juvenile Stakes at Woodbine, October 11

Two black-type tilts for two-year-olds will headline the racing at Woodbine on Sunday.

Race 7 Wager

Race 8 Wagers

  • $5 win and place #5 Epic Affair ($10)
  • $1 trifecta 5 with 1 with all ($5)
  • $1 trifecta 5 with all with 1 ($5)

Race 7 – Display S.

A compact field of five will run seven-eighths over the Tapeta in the first stakes event of the afternoon. #2 Odenkirk (3-1), a second-time starter for trainer Mark Casse, was very professional in posting a smart debut score on the lawn here on Sept. 26 and will move to the main oval in this spot. Purchased for $130,000 as a yearling, the son of Nyquist trains in swift fashion on the main oval at Woodbine and will likely make a seamless transition in his stakes debut with Rafael Hernandez in the silks.

#3 Quipster (2-1) was a convincing winner at first asking on the oval and cuts back in distance after a nice try in the Summer S. (G1) going long on the lawn last time. The Kevin Attard charge will be forcing the pace from the break beneath Pietro Moran, and he could be the one to run down in the lane.

Race 8 – Glorious Song S.

Seven fillies will go seven panels on the Tapeta in the second black-type dash of the day. I feel that #5 Epic Affair (8-1) will handle the transition to the main strip and be a major player. Trained by Gail Cox, the Epicenter two-year-old has improved her Brisnet Speed number in each race to date, and the filly was last seen driving home an easy maiden winner at the distance last time out. Ryan Munger retains the mount.

In a field with a ton of early pace signed on, #1 Cattrall (5-2) might be the swiftest of the group and drew the rail, as well. The fleet chestnut faces softer coming off a run in the deep Natalma S. (G1) on the grass most recently, and the daughter of Corniche will be dangerous if she clears with Moran back in the silks.
