Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025

Dick Powell handicaps the Thursday card at Presque Isle Downs.

Race One:

1st: (1) ELZIE CLAYTON – first-time starter from Larry Rivelli who wins 26% with his debut runners and 25% with his overall maiden claimers. Son of The Factor (9% debut winners) is out of a dam by Montbrook (10% debut winners).   

2nd: (3) DUCK HUNTER – was a distant second when dropped down to this maiden claiming level, then came back with the same effort. Leland Hayes wins 18% first start after being beaten as the favorite. 

3rd: (6) THEY CALL ME SUE – first-time starter by Neolithic (15% debut winners) out of a dam by Two Step Salsa. 

Race Two:

1st: (1) MOMENTOUS MISS – just missed against better company two starts back, then dropped back down to this claiming price and won by a nose. She draws the rail with Rosario Montanez back – 20% with his sprint mounts. 

2nd: (6) CHIPS LEGACY – speedball breaking from the outside, tired two stars back against better company, then held on by a neck when dropped down to this price. Randy Russell wins 16% first start after a win.    

3rd: (5) GROWTH CAPITAL – held well for third two starts back, then showed high speed going two turns. 

Race Three:

1st: (2) KRISSYS STAR – romped by 11 lengths in her well-bet career debut over two next-out winners going this distance on the dirt at Belterra. Daughter of Authentic draws inside for Bill Morey, who wins 26% first start after a maiden win. 

2nd: (5) MISS MOXEE – broke her maiden here by over seven lengths in her career debut, going 5 1/2 furlongs, then was a good third against this level. She stretches out to two turns for Linda Rice, who wins 20% going long.  

3rd: (6) VIVA VIENNE – broke her maiden by a neck as the 3-2 favorite here going this distance. 

Race Four:

1st: (6) BLESS AMERICA – tired two starts back here going two turns after showing good speed then did little last out. He drops way down in class and distance for Matt Kintz, who wins 22% first time against claimers. 

2nd: (4) RIDING A DREAM – won two sprints in a row against $25K claimers, then tired in his last two starts when moved up to open allowance company. He drops down in class for Arriagada, who wins 28% with his claimers. 

3rd: (1) VENIK – dropped down in class and distance here last out and won going away for Linda Rice. 

Race Five:

1st: (5) TIME FOR AN ANGEL – moved up to this claiming price and won by six lengths two starts back, then tired against better. Daughter of Not This Time drops back in class for Scooter Davis, who is 5 for 9 going long after two sprints.  

2nd: (1) OMIKAMI – rallied from way back to just miss three starts back, then was an even second in decent time. She showed little last out and now drops down in class for Ralph Baez, who wins 19% with his synthetic-track starters. 

3rd: (2) ALCOHOL – opened up a big lead and held on easily as the 1-2 favorite two starts back. 

Race Six:

1st: (3) SWISS SLANG – rallied from off the pace to miss by a neck two starts back, then beat his optional claiming level last out in good time. Yoni Orantes wins 14% first start after a win and 19% on synthetic tracks.  

2nd: (4) UNCLE TRULY – was a game second two starts back against open allowance foes, then pulled away to an easy victory for Juan Arriagada, who wins 23% first start after a win and with his route mounts.    

3rd: (1) HAPPYISASHAPPYDOES – horse for the course speedball breaking from the rail with Martina Rojas aboard. 

Race Seven:

1st: (1) HURRICANES ABLOWIN – stretched out to two turns for the first time and was a game second two starts back. He lost all chance with a poor start on the dirt at Park and stretches out again from the rail with Alex Chavez. 

2nd: (5) KING MENDELSSOHN – was claimed for $25K three starts back and was a good second in very fast time going six furlongs. He ran well last out going this distance for Scooter Davis, who wins 35% with his allowance runners.   

3rd: (4) MAJOR MISCHIEF – was soundly beaten in his first three career starts on turf, then won here in his PID debut. 

Race Eight:

1st: (6) WARRIOR’S NOTION – was a good third against slightly better maiden claimers, then dropped down to this level and held on for third. Matt Kintz wins 19% with his overall maiden claimers and 15% on synthetic tracks. 

2nd: (2) GOGGINS – first-time starter from Randy Russell who wins 12% with his debut runners. He’s by Liam’s Map, who wins 11% with his debut runners and had a debut winner at Keeneland last Saturday for Kelsy Danner. 

3rd: (8) VERNOR’S JUNCTION – was a good second here going this distance two starts back, then tired last out.
