August 5th, 2025

Dick Powell analyzes Tuesday’s action at Presque Isle Downs and offers his selections.

Race 1

1st: (4) SHOWDOWN KING – was a game second three starts back here against this level, then was an even fourth in fast time when moved up in class. Last out, he dropped back down and held on well in a long sprint here.

2nd: (1) MISS FOXANN – returned to the races off a long layoff and was an even fourth against this level. She came back with a similar effort and tries them again from post one. Kevin Rice wins 23% third start off the layoff.

Race 2

1st: (4) FAST LEARNER – still a maiden after 14 tries, but he has six placings in 10 starts here. He tired last out when used hard from post one and should be able to save some early energy.

2nd: (7) SHOOT THE WAVES – was a good fourth two starts back here going this distance against better, then did nothing when stretched out to two turns. He drops in class, distance, and weight for John Fennessy.

3rd: (5) UP IN TIME – showed good speed in his well-bet career debut here and now turns back to a sprint.

Race 3

1st: (5) BLOODY COLORS WAVE – went gate to wire two starts back here as the 8-5 favorite, then weakened against better company in fast time. Ron Potts wins 27% first time against claimers.

2nd: (4) HOUSE OF MAGIC – was an even third two starts back here in her PID debut, then she rallied to get within a length against this class level. Brandon Kulp wins 26% third start off the layoff, and Gallardo returns.

Race 4

1st: (4) YES I’M JESS – rallied nicely to get second behind a Linda Rice runner that came back to win again. The son of Jess’s Dream returns on short rest for Lance Stokes. Pablo Morales rides back.

2nd: (1) PANCHO SLIPS AWAY – showed good speed here in his well-bet career debut last year, then tired next out. He finished out the season with a similar effort on dirt and now returns off a 224-day layoff for Kevin Rice.

3rd: (3) SOUPER FORCES – first-time starter from Mike Trombetta, who wins 12% debuting against this maiden level.

Race 5

1st: (5) WHITEKNUCKLEFLYER – was claimed for $10K but dropped down to the bottom six months later, where she romped by five lengths. She held well for third when moved way up in class & is now back to a more realistic class level.

2nd: (4) VALIANT VICTORIA – finished up last year when she showed high speed from post one. She returned 9 months later with a similar effort and now drops down to the bottom for the Spieths.

3rd: (7) GOLDEN HEART – was a close third in her PID debut, then tired last out against the same group.

Race 6

1st: (5) SCHNITTKER – has been in the money in all seven of his starts. Claimed for $12.5 to begin the year, he was second as the beaten favorite in his last two starts for John Guciardo, who wins 16% with his claimers.

2nd: (1) SHARON’S PRINCE – ran well in his first two starts on the Tapeta here, then was a good second on a muddy track at Thistledown. He’ll have to break well from the rail with Israel Rodriguez back.

3rd: (2) BET ON BRET – was beaten 81 lengths in his first three starts, but he romped in his PID debut.

Race 7

1st: (5) OSCARSSON – romped in his PID debut, then raced evenly when moved up off the claim. He came back and won easily and finds a group that he can hide out in. Gerry Brooks wins 16% first start after a win.

2nd: (7) THALBERG – always seems to run about the same race, which puts him in the mix here. He was a good second going this distance in blazing fast time, then rallied for third when moved up in class.

3rd: (4) REAL NAUGHTY – dominated going two turns on a muddy track at Thistledown last out.

Race 8

1st: (6) SIP’N’ SPEED broke her maiden easily as the 3-2 favorite, then came back and held well for third as the 4-5 favorite. Tim Hamm wins 29% first start after being beaten as the favorite.

2nd: (5) SILENT DIVA – very inconsistent mare chased sprinters two starts back, then came back with a good third at long odds going two turns. She gets in light again with Juan Belisario.

3rd: (3) TARTAN GREEN – one-dimensional closer got up in time two starts back on turf only 11 days ago.
