Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Tuesday, July 29, 2025

July 28th, 2025

Dick Powell provides his selections and analysis for Tuesday's action at Presque Isle Downs.

Race 1

1st: (1) SILAS M P – showed high speed from post one in his career debut behind a Linda Rice trainee that won next time out. He comes back against the same maiden claimer level for the Rojases. He adds Lasix for the first time.

2nd: (3) FLING READY – has had five career starts against better maiden company on the turf. Son of More Than Ready raced evenly last out and now tries Tapeta while dropping down to maiden claimers. Kelsey Danner wins 24% with this dropdown.

Race 2

1st: (5) RANSOM MONEY – moved up in class two starts back when he missed by a neck, then dropped down to this level and was an even second as the lukewarm favorite. Teresa Connelly wins 34% first start after being beaten as the favorite and gets Morales.

2nd: (8) VALIANT EXCHANGE – missed going gate to wire here in his Tapeta debut against this level, then moved up in class and showed speed as the 3-5 favorite. John Guciardo wins 26% third start off the layoff and is two for two with Villa-Gomez.

3rd: (2) STEELER MISCHIEF – has been stuck at this conditioned claiming level for the last four starts.

Race 3

1st: (4) GET EVEN – horse for the course made a strong middle move from post nine two starts back, then added blinkers and won by over seven lengths as the odds-on favorite. Not claimed that day, Scooter Davis brings him back against the same claiming level.

2nd: (3) FORCE OF JUSTICE – raced evenly two starts back on the dirt at Penn National, then came back here and went gate to wire. He comes back against the same claiming level for Murray Rojas, who wins 9% with her overall claimers.

3rd: (1) SAMURAI LEGACY – speedball breaking from the rail gets Gallardo back – 3 for 7 riding for Mike Pappada.

Race 4

1st: (3) KING REIGERT – did nothing in his well-bet career debut going six furlongs, then came back and went gate to wire but was taking down for lugging in. He comes back at the same distance and adds blinkers to keep him focused.

2nd: (7) FROZEN FOUR – winless in eight starts here, but most came against better. He drops down to bottom-level maiden claimers for Rory Barron, who wins 14% with his synthetic-track starters. Ron Allen, Jr. rides back – flat-bet profit with his route rides.

3rd: (4) STRATEGYFORYOU – was off the board in six straight starts before missing by a nose here last out.

Race 5

1st: (8) REFUGIADA – raced evenly when blinkers were added three starts back, then beat similar at Gulfstream. He came back four months later with a good second on the dirt at Mountaineer Park as the odds-on favorite.

2nd: (1) WHAT’S GOOD – went gate to wire two starts back from post 8 at long odds, then tired last out despite being allowed to set a sluggish pace. The daughter of Cross Traffic draws the rail and gets Martina Rojas back aboard.

3rd: (7) WHISPERING SEA – was a good second two starts back, then missed by a length against better company.

Race 6

1st: (3) TOP RECRUIT – won his PID debut, making his first start off the claim by Juan Arriagada. He came back and won again last out as the 6-5 favorite and now moves up another notch in class. Arriagada wins 29% with his synthetic-track starters.

2nd: (6) MOR SPRING SPIRIT – horse for the course is 5 for 9, including his last two starts here. He beat similar two starts back, then crushed starter allowance foes by four lengths in brilliant time. Scooter Davis wins 33% first start after a win.

3rd: (5) OUTHUSTLE – returned to the races off the layoff with a close second behind the top choice, then beat allowance foes.

Race 7

1st: (2) WELAKA – raced evenly in three starts on the Tapeta at Turfway, then was a good third on the dirt at Churchill. He showed little on a muddy track there, and ships to PID for Kelsey Danner, who shows a flat-bet profit with her allowance runners.

2nd: (4) THE DOORMAN – won his PID debut but was beaten at 3-10 next time out. He raced evenly again last out after chasing a demanding pace. Rory Barron goes with Israel Rodriguez – 16% with his route rides.

3rd: (3) ANCHISES – moves way up in class off three wins in his last four starts.

Race 8

1st: (5) BRUMBA WAFFLE TOES – drops down in class off a second and two even fourths. He has little gate speed, so Gallardo will have to use him early to keep up. Ron Potts wins 22% with his claimers and 20% when going long.

2nd: (1) VAN – beat this claiming level three starts back then raced evenly when moved up in class. He ran poorly again last out and now drops down in class for Kim DePasquale. Martina Rojas rides back from post one.

3rd: (6) MARSAC – speedball is only 1 for 20 but held on for second against this group two starts back, then was third last out.
