Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Tuesday, June 3, 2025

June 3rd, 2025

Dick Powell handicaps the Tuesday card at Presque Isle Downs.

Race 1

1st: (6) SHEZ TWISTED – showed high speed for a half-mile in her well-bet career debut against much better maidens at Churchill Downs 19 days ago. Larry Rivelli wins 22% second time out and 29% first start after being beaten as the favorite.

2nd: (1) FISTFULOFMONEY – just missed in his career debut against restricted maidens first time out at Churchill for Kevin Rice, who wins 19% with his second-time starters and 29% going dirt to synthetic.

3rd: (5) TEAR JERKER – first-time starter from Ron Potts who wins 14% with his debut runners.

Race 2

1st: (1) WILD DELIGHT – was a game second last year going two turns after she opened a 15-length lead. She ran well in the next two starts in sprints, then raced evenly here two weeks ago. Martina Rojas, who rode here last year, picks up the mount.

2nd: (5) VANILLA BEAN – finished up last year with a good win going two turns, then returned to the races here last out and won easily. She moves up a notch in class for Mike Rogers, who wins 17% first start after a win.

3rd: (3) I’M HEADING EAST – horse for the course won going 5 1/2 furlongs here last out in her second start off the layoff.

Race 3

1st: (6) SAMURAI LEGACY – horse for the course has won 11 times here and returns off a 250-day layoff. He ran well in the same spot last year, and because he returns against the same claiming level, he runs without being exposed to the claim.

2nd: (7) OLDZFOURFORTYTWO – horse for the course has won 11 times here and makes his first start in 232 days. He will probably be fresh off the layoff, so Walber Alencar might send him to the front from an outside post.

3rd: (4) GUACO – ran well against the top choice here last year and has two dirt starts at Finger Lakes to ready for this.

Race 4

1st: (7) TUDOR PEAK – has yet to win here in eight tries. She showed good speed to the deep stretch last out in her first start off the long layoff for Mike Rogers, who wins 14% in this spot and 17% with his claiming starters.

3rd: (6) DOMINANT STRANGER – has only won once here in 40 tries but has placed 20 times. She drops a notch in class for her first start off the long layoff for Rory Barron, who wins 16% with his claimers.

3rd: (3) DOWN TO EARTH – won once here last year and was beaten four lengths off the long layoff two weeks ago.

Race 5

1st: (1) SPEIGHT THE SNOW – broke his maiden here second time out last year, then came back and held well for second against stakes foes. After two even starts to finish the year, he returned with a decent effort on the dirt at Tampa Bay two starts back.

2nd: (6) SCHNITTKER – ran well here last year as a four-year-old against state-bred allowance foes. He returned here 10 months later with an even third when dropped down in class, and now moves back up off the claim by John Guciardo.

3rd: (3) TOWN BARBER – missed by a neck two starts back at Turfway Park, then did little in a turf sprint at Churchill against better.

Race 6

1st: (1) MENTY B – was a good second after a clumsy break as the odds-on favorite in her career debut on the dirt at Belterra. She tries Tapeta for her second start and draws the rail again for Ethan West, who wins 13% second time out.

2nd: (8) SPANISH CARA – ran well on synthetic in Ireland last year, then shipped to California where she raced on turf going long and short. Tim Hamm wins 22% second start out of the barn and gets Pablo Morales.

3rd: (3) PINCARA – showed good speed for a half-mile in her career debut here, going 5 1/2  furlongs.

Race 7

1st: (9) SUSANOO – broke her maiden against bottom maiden claimers two starts back here going two turns, then did nothing in her last start. She returns 230 days later for Kim DePasquale, who wins 12% in this spot.

2nd: (7) CEFALU – one-dimensional closer ran well on the turf at Tampa Bay in her last two starts, including a win last out in decent time. Daughter of Wooton Bassett tries Tapeta for Juan Arriagada, who wins 27% with his claimers but is 0 for 13 with Rodriguez.

3rd: (8) SWEET LILIBET – broke her maiden on the Tapeta at Turfway Park. Daughter of Violence drops way down in class.

Race 8

1st: (4) WE CALLED SOL – dropped down to this maiden claiming level last out and was beaten two lengths in his Tapeta debut. Son of Liam’s Map returns for Gerry Brooks, who wins 17% with his synthetic-track starters and 14% with his maiden claimers.

2nd: (6) HOTLINE BLINK – has had 11 chances to break his maiden, and his lone Tapeta start back in March was good enough to beat these. Speedy son of Goldencents draws well with Gaddiel Martinez aboard.

3rd: (8) HIGHTAIL FOX – ran well here last year against better maidens and shows a bullet workout here for this.
