Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Tuesday, Sept. 30

Dick Powell handicaps the Tuesday card at Presque Isle Downs.

Race One:

1st: (4) NUN GIMEL HAY PO – still a maiden after nine tries, but she has five placings in seven PID starts against this maiden claiming level. She draws well in the middle and gets Addiel Ayala back aboard.  

2nd: (1) BOHO LADY – speedball breaking from the rail returns to the races off a 416-day layoff. She ran well in her career debut, so she’s proven in this spot and gets in light with Brooke Bays.  

3rd: (6) CHANNEL ME IN – turns back to a sprint off some even efforts going two turns here. 

Race Two:

1st: (5) VENIK – came here for Linda Rice and has earned $28K, which is almost the price she claimed him for. This is a big drop down in class and distance – 32% with this big a drop, and 27% going long to short.

2nd: (3) VALIANT EXCHANGE – just missed in his PID debut against cheaper, then came back and tired some as the odds-on favorite. He went gate to wire last out and faces similar for John Guciardo – 25% second off layoff. 

3rd: (4) J R JONE Z – beat this class level in his PID debut, then just missed here off the claim by Erin McClellan. 

Race Three:

1st: (5) BUCCHINI – did nothing in her seasonal debut but came back to break her maiden next time out. She ran second in her last two starts here against these for John Guciardo – 19% with his sprinters. 

2nd: (4) ON RESERVE – raced evenly in her first two starts here when Lasix was added, then she was outrun. Claimed that day, she just missed as the odds-on favorite when dropped down in class and moves up here. 

Race Four:

1st: (8) NIGHT RIDE – one-dimensional closer rallied for second two races in a row here against better company, then had no chance against open allowance foes. He drops down to the bottom claimers for Lance Stokes.  

2nd: (9) RUNAWAY HARRY – horse for the course is 9 for 17 here but has not run this year in five tries. This is his first start against bottom claimers for Mike Pappada, who wins 17% with his synthetic-track starters.   

3rd: (1) LOUISIANIMAL – dropped down to this class level and won going away as the heavy favorite two starts back. 

Race Five:

1st: (4) ZO LEE – daughter of Good Samaritan is mostly a turf horse but just missed winning a stakes race here last year. She was a good second on Tapeta at Woodbine, then showed some late kick in turf sprints at Colonial.    

2nd: (2) REIGERT GIRLS– pace prompter got up in time to win her last two starts on dirt at Penn, and she ships here, where she has run well before. Brandon Kulp wins 26% third start off the layoff and 19% going long to short.

3rd: (7) MILLIAT – rallied from far back to get up by a neck in a turf sprint at this distance at Woodbine. 

Race Six:

1st: (6) KING MENDELSSOHN – was a good second here in his PID debut against open company, then just missed when moved up to this level in his first start off the claim by Scooter Davis – 29% in this spot. 

2nd: (4) LET’S GET IT ON – romped by three lengths in his career debut here, then was an even third. He stretched out to two turns last out and showed speed to the deep stretch. Mike Rogers wins 14% on synthetic tracks.   

3rd: (8) DECLARATION TIME – one-dimensional closer only has one start here, and it was an even fourth in good time. 

Race Seven:

1st: (3) CALVIN’S RIDE – horse for the course has won here last three starts, including a fast win against this class level. Kevin Rice wins 19% of his first start after a win and with his synthetic-track starters

2nd: (4) HE’S A MESS – beat this class level by over eight lengths in his first start off the claim, then came back to win a state-bred stakes race. He lost all chance last out in the PID Mile for Scooter Davis, who wins 38% against allowance foes.  

3rd: (7) EXTRASEXYBIGDADDEE – horse for the course moves up in class off the claim by Scooter Davis. 

Race Eight:

1st: (5) CHILL BOSS – has run well since being stretched out to two turns against this class level. He was the beaten favorite at odds on last out for Murray Rojas, who wins 21% with Martina.    

2nd: (1) WATERMELON CRUSH – speedball trying PID for the first time after opening up a big lead on the turf at Colonial Downs. He draws the rail, drops down in class, and gets Antonio Gallardo. 

3rd: (6) BREATH DEEPLY – can get a minor piece off four even efforts here against this level.
