Dick Powell handicaps the Tuesday card at Presque Isle Downs.
Race 1
1st: (5) BOOGIE WOOGIE – rallied for third in her well-bet career debut against this maiden level for Randy Russell, who wins 15% against these. She can handle these if she shows normal improvement the second time out.
2nd: (6) SPOKEN VOW – speedball has made the lead in her last seven starts on Tapeta. She improved last out and might hang on while getting in light again with Brooke Bays – 11% with her sprint rides.
3rd: (1) FUNDING – first-time starter shows some workouts on the Tapeta at Fair Hill for Graham Motion.
Race 2
1st: (6) WE CALLED SOL – rallied for third in his PID debut here, then came back and broke his maiden easily. He was an even third last out and now moves up in class in his first start off the claim by Ralph Baez, who also removes blinkers.
2nd: (1) EL CHISPAZO – flashed decent speed two starts back in his PID debut, then broke his maiden easily as the odds-on favorite. He takes on winners for Juan Arriagada, who wins 27% with his claimers and 21% on synthetic tracks.
3rd: (3) VALIANT EXCHANGE – broke his maiden in a turf sprint first time out at Tampa Bay and just missed here last out.
Race 3
1st: (5) CROWNING PRINCE – finished up last year with a good second against this maiden level in a long sprint. He was a sharp runner-up the second start of this year and now stretches out to two turns for Justin Morrell. Ron Allen, Jr. rides back.
2nd: (4) STANDPOINT – has some big races going two turns on the dirt in the past. His last two starts were on the turf, and he now tries Tapeta for Greg Sacco, who wins 15% off medium rest and 23% when he puts blinkers back on.
3rd: (6) MR. IMPATIENT – still a maiden after 14 tries but has three sprints here to prep for the stretch-out.
Race 4
1st: (2) RIGHT NOW – beat this optional claiming level by five lengths in fast time as the odds-on favorite. She came back with an even third and tries them again for Tim Girten, who wins 37% in the first start after being beaten as the favorite.
3rd: (1) RUSTY MY BROTHER – finished up last season with a gate-to-wire win going two turns. She came back this year with an even fourth going one turn and tries them again. Horse for the course has won seven times here.
3rd: (6) FORGOTTEN PEACE – horse for the course has won an amazing 14 times here with 15 other placings.
Race 5
1st: (7) LA TOURISTA – made her PID debut three starts back and was a good second after being shuffled back from post one. She just missed the next time out and then was second again. Gerry Brooks wins 17% with his overall claimers and is 3 for 4 with Gallardo.
2nd: (1) WHITEKNUCKLEFLYER – chased the pace two starts back at Gulfstream, then came back there and just missed going gate to wire. Claimed 171 days ago. She drops down to the bottom for Adam Rice.
3rd: (4) SPOOKY LITTLE GIRL – does her best running when sent to the front. She drops seven pounds and removes blinkers.
Race 6
1st: (3) SOLDIERESS – broke her maiden on the dirt at Tampa Bay off a lengthy layoff, then came back with a pair of thirds. Last out, she rallied from off the pace to win going away against similar company for Aldana Spieth, who wins 39% with Scott.
2nd: (1) VICOUNTESS – missed by a length two starts back on the dirt at Penn National, then came here and was second as the odds-on favorite. Brandon Kulp wins 25% third start off the layoff and 27% first start after being beaten as the favorite.
3rd: (6) ACE UP HER SLEEVE – returns to the races for her first start in six months. but she has enough back class.
Race 7
1st: (7) CALVIN'S RIDE – was soundly beaten on the turf at Aqueduct two starts back, then shipped here and just missed here in her Tapeta debut. She stretches out a little more for Kevin Rice, who wins 18% with his synthetic-track starters.
2nd: (5) NIGHT RIDE – raced evenly here two starts back against this allowance level but improved greatly last out when her late rally just fell short. She'll need help up front with the pace, but two starts over the track should have him fit.
3rd: (6) ADIOS BUCCANEER – was a sharp winner two starts back in his PID debut, then raced evenly against these.
Race 8
1st: (7) I'M NO ANGEL – showed good speed before weakening two starts back here, then was placed first by the stewards in a rough trip as the 8-5 favorite. Ron Potts has him at the right claiming level and gets Gallardo back aboard.
2nd: (1) COLLATOR – has some back class on Tapeta at Turfway. After two dirt starts at Belterra, he came here and was a good third against this claiming level after making a menacing move. The son of good synthetic sire, Street Boss, draws the rail.
3rd: (4) STEAL THE RHODE – won his PID debut, then did nothing against winners. He bounced back last out when dropped down.
