Wednesday Harness Preview for 6/25/2014

While many owners and trainers are eager to see their horses compete in several major stakes this summer at various venues, those owners and trainers heading to Harrington Raceway this evening will be content to see their sophomore trotters earn a berth in next month's lucrative Governor's Day card.
Wednesday evening marks the final round of Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund eliminations for three-year-old colt & gelding trotters. Several of them have already likely secured a spot in the $100,000 DSBF final on Governor's Day, but most of the remainder will either need to finish first or second in their respective elims tonight to return for the big night here next month.
In the opening race on the card, I Like My Boss (Jonathan Roberts) will look to maintain his unbeaten ways when he starts from post five in the first DSBF elim on the card. A sophomore son of Don Boss Vita trained by Robert Shahan, I Like My Boss has won all 10 of his career outings, including all seven of his starts this year. In four of his last six tallies he has been the overwhelming 1-20 favorite at post time.
I LIke My Boss has won each of the last two editions of the $100,000 DSBF finals for his age, gait and gender and he will be the prohibitive choice again on Governor's Day regardless of how well her performs this evening. First round winner Call Me Hal (Jeff Fout) starts from the outside post seven and appears to be improving with each start. But his primary target is also the Governor's Day final.
Several races later on the card the older trotters will be on display in the Open Handicap where another talented sort will look to maintain his status as head of the class.
Traverse Seelster has won six of 14 starts and earned nearly $100,000 this year for trainer Josh Green despite being the outside post in most of those outings. Traverse Seelster won last week's Open as the 3-5 favorite by three lengths in 1:54.2 and he will be the prohibitive choice again this evening despite being assigned the dreaded eight hole in a field of eight.
Then several races later in the eighth, the second DSBF division for sophomore colt trotters, several trotters who were beaten by I Like My Boss and Call Me Hal will get a chance to find the winner's circle without having to topple the two top colts in this bunch.
LG's Pride (Jim Morand) has been second in each of his last two outings while facing I Like My Boss and is the logical choice to find the winner's circle while starting from post two here for trainer Les Givens. Odessa has been third in each of his last two starts and draws the rail and should secure a spot in the final with a mild upset of LG's Pride or a second-place finish behind that one for trainer-driver Kim Vincent.
