Every Wednesday evening the cards at Dover Downs focus on the circuit's top trotters and while that gait often has the reputation of being unreliable and less formful in relation to their pacing counterparts, the trotters will occasionally offer plenty of value for the risk. A quartet of trotters look ready to regain their winning ways in their second start of the campaign.
In the second race this evening at Dover, look for Whit (Bret Brittingham) to rebound from a gritty, second-place effort on New Year's Day to garner his first victory of the year. Last week he was asked to race first over in the same class and lasted for the place spot while providing very live cover for the winner in the faster half of the non-winners of $9001 last six split condition. Whit should be able to make amends this evening.
Several races later in the sixth, a non-winners of four races lifetime class for trotters, give JC Who Dini (Trace Tetrick) a chance to redeem himself after finishing second as the tepid 3-1 choice last week. This Leigh Raymer trainee was used hard through the opening half and battled gamely to the wire before overhauled by an 11-1 shot, but look for JC Who Dini to get a breather to the half this evening and have plenty left in reserve for the final quarter-mile.
Two races later in the eighth, a winners over $12,000 last six class for trotters, take a flyer on Lovely Vacation (Ron Pierce) despite two obvious knocks. Last week he was the beaten favorite in a non-winners of $12,001 last six and moves up off the setback and then had the misfortune of drawing post position eight. But those facts will also permit Lovely Vacation to go postward at a generous price this evening and if he can work out a decent trip from his outside slot he could prevail at 8-1 or more.
Then three races later in the evening's 11th race, a winners over $45,000 class for trotters, expect Jailhouse Juice (Toby Lynch, Jr.) to make immediate amends for his second-place finish as the 4-5 favorite against similar on New Year's Day. Jailhouse Juice was virtually parked out the entire mile through rapid fractions and still battled well enough to gain the place spot in a brave try. He should be able to work out a much better trip this evening, either by getting to the front early or being able to brush to command before a moderate half.
